The Unabridged Edgar Allan Poe, Leatherbound

Just because I was a little jazzed about it, I thought I'd share this. I was at a local fair here in Connecticut, something that I do a lot of during the Autumn season because it's essentially Fair season once Fall comes, and I found this book. I happened to arrive right at 10:00 am, and was the first one to step up to the booth that a local library has every year at this particular fair. When I stepped up to the table, I saw this leather bound edition of what amounts to Poe's entire literary output. Now, I have essentially all of Poe's work in various forms, mostly in an assortment of anthologies. The beauty of this, aside from the fact that it is a gorgeous, leather bound book with gilded edges still in it's original shrink-wrap, is that it contains ALL of Poe's work on one, 1,200 page volume, which is obvious a beautiful thing in itself. Anyway, I saw a price tag of $5.00 on the plastic and immediately snatched it up. The woman said, "My boss told me that was WAY under priced and that it would sell quickly", and I was happy to prove him right. She continued to tell me that the book was "in storage" in the basement of the library for several years and they had come across it while looking for fair items to sell. While it certainly isn't rare by most standards, I did see copies ranging from as much as 150 bucks to as little as 50, but considered myself to have scored a rather major find either way. It's a gorgeous book that's about 3 inches thick and again, all the Poe (literally) one could ever want in one big, chunky block. I happily add it to my collection as the alpha and omega of EAP's work, and I always love getting something so exciting for a song. The work of Poe is what attracted me to the world of literary darkness over thirty years ago, so I guess this is as much a sentimental find as much as anything else.

That is quite a score, congrats. The early bird does indeed get the worm!
