Re: Homage Volumes You Would Like to See
Aickman deserves two. Seriously, I like the idea of different sets of writers taking a shot at the same thing. Likewise, I'd love to see what a number of other writers would do with a Machen tribute.
It's possible we've seen enough volumes of Lovecraft homage.... of course, the next time someone asks me to contribute to one of these, I'll probably take yet another swing at the subject. I cast votes for Blackwood and M.R. James. I also like the idea of weird fiction takes on non-weird-fiction sources, such as the recent Current 93 tribute.

Re: Homage Volumes You Would Like to See
I think the homage or tribute anthology, which is really a form of fan fiction, has great potential, but I'm mainly interested in tributes to obscure writers, or else ones with bodies of work limited or idiosyncratic enough that they wouldn't be most people's first choice. In other words I think anything which allows you to wield tropes pretty carelessly is not going to produce anything as interesting as something where you're forced to expand on or think into the corners of a forbidding or limited body of work. So, given the choice between Lovecraft and someone like Sarban I'd choose the latter - if not just because we've already had 50+ years of Lovecraft pastiche. Writers who only produced one or two books, writers who are still alive and working and "on the rise" (i.e. not "important" or "canonical" yet), and writers whose projects seem forbiddingly personal, all seem like better choices to me than easily-pasticheable writers like Kafka, M.R. James or Richard Staines.
I also think, in the case of a living writer, they should themselves be involved in the project and forced to produce some kind of self-parody or autocritique. Specific ideas: Yumiko Kurahashi, James Joyce, Hitomi Kanehara, Djuna Barnes, D.F. Lewis, Can Xue, Gerald Murnane, Cordwainer Smith (really surprised no one has attempted the latter yet), Denton Welch, etc.

Re: Homage Volumes You Would Like to See
I can scarcely imagine what sublime creations might result from an homage to Jean Cocteau (R.B. Russell's Bloody Bauldelaire could conceivably be a tribute to Les Enfants Terrible).
Of course, I'd love to see a Joyce tribute - I can imagine in taking place over three volumes: the first dedicated to the early works, the second to Ulysses and the third to the Wake. Gerard de Nerval comes to mind, along with William Beckford. I'd love to see what the likes of D.P. Watt and Brendan Connell could do with Raymond Roussel. Crapes! This makes me want to start a publishing house just to be able to hold these volumes in my hands. If only I had a doppelganger and unlimited income (add to that any knowledge or skill whatsoever in the art of creating fine books).

Carl Jacobi.
He needs to be less obscure.

Schwob. Gracq? The rest of the authors on Dan Ghetu's projected tribute list (referenced earlier in the thread), esp. Shiel and Perutz.

Re: Homage Volumes You Would Like to See
Another for Perutz.
To amplify what Justin was saying: What about a work-specific homage? Like, in the case of Perutz, homage inspired by, for example: Master of the Day of Judgment...I think that would be more "fan-ficcy" and obscure and would force readers to approach the original work with new and improved, "multi-faceted" eyes. Actually, I suppose that the "work-specific homage" was already touched on with Chambers and Joyce above--but seriously, what about Perutz's Master of the Day of Judgment?

Re: Homage Volumes You Would Like to See
I am currently seeking funding for a Mickey Rooney tribute anthology. There is hope that a good number of the contributions will also feature Judy Garland.
