First post, might as well be on one of my favorite topics, black metal.

Lately I've bee spending time with the (only) Liturgia album, Liturgia. The Finnish horde plays a slow plodding style that creates an atmosphere filled with visions of collapsing, neglected churches and dusty relics of a time long passed.


I also recommend Epheles from France is you like a more bombastic atmosphere.

Another French band that has caught much attention, from me at least, as of late would be Celeste, who weaves densely textured howling dirges that seem as though a meeting point between black metal and its subsequent blackened offshoots, and early Swans and Neurosis. Not all of these are of the clearest quality but those who like either will get the point nevertheless.





I'd almost forgotten that Altar of Plagues, whose music I used in my first post to this thread, has recently released a new album, my favorite of theirs' so far. This is probably my favorite track from the album.

Ok. I am totally in love with the band Ghost. They're part of that new revival of 'Occult Rock', which is somewhat of a throwback to early 70s metal about black magick. Imagine Blue Oyster Cult crossed with Black Sabbath playing in Dracula's castle -- that's Ghost.

Yes, I love The Devil's Blood. Thanks for the Christian Mistress tip. Listening to them now. I'm starting to like this new generation of 'Occult Rock'.

Also within this sub-genre I like:

Blood Ceremony
Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats
Jex Thoth
Ancient VVisdom

Also, it's not metal ('Dark Folk', I guess), but I really like the band Wardruna.

That's funny because that's EXACTLY what I thought when I first heard them. I believe the band in Dracula A.D. 1972 was The Stone Ground. They perfomed that trippy song, 'Alligator Man', or something like that, in the film. Been a long time. I think I need to see that again.

Some interesting info on Uncle Acid's new album, 'Blood Lust':
The group's second album Blood Lust (2011) was recorded in a dilapidated barn known as The Slaughter House. Using old fuzz pedals and broken amps to create a lo fi saturated sound, the entire album was laid to rest on tape in the space of four cold months. Blood Lust tells the story of a drug crazed sadist who embarks on a witchfinding killing spree before meeting his own demise at the withered hands of Satan. The bands intention was to create an audio equivalent of a 60's exploitation horror film.
