Re: The Best Live Album?

Vital by Van der Graaf. From what I understand, conventional wisdom at the time had it that VdGG were a mediocre live act. But when I listen to this album and the BBC sessions, I get the impression that they may have just surprised audiences by being very... direct... compared to other prog bands.

Re: The Best Live Album?

The most played live albums on my itunes list:

Thin Lizzy: Live and Dangerous
Rory Gallagher: Irish Tour 1973
Johnny Cash: Live at San Quentin
Morrissey: Beethoven Was Deaf

I have some great live bootlegs of The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Cure on C90 tapes, electrifying stuff, but unfortunately they're mouldering in a box somewhere in the attic and I don't even own a tape player any more!

Re: The Best Live Album?

I slightly recall that there was a DVD or something issued on Masato Honda's Cross Heart Tour. I had a hard time looking for those items that may or may not actually exist. In the end, I pretty much ripped the whole tour from youtube videos, so it's more like "live album" than live album. Good #### though

Re: The Best Live Album?

Hawkwind - Space Ritual.......nothing else comes close except
Coil's .....And the Ambulance Died in His Arms or Live One.

Not much of a fan of live albums, but these three are amazing.

ps: And I agree with a previous poster, Magma's Hhai (Live) is
essential as well......King Crimson's USA and Joy Division's
Still too. Guess there are more than I thought
