Re: Ex Occidente Press

It's great to see EO so active, although perhaps not so great for my bank balance. The quality of recent releases has been top notch; I thoroughly enjoyed reading both The New Fate and The Madman of Tosterglope. High quality literature, and both books I find myself pondering over days after I read them.

I've been looking forward to Cities and Thrones and Powers for some time, glad to hear it's iminent.

That is the greatest photograph of green kryptonite I've ever seen. Thank you, Mr. Lewis!

Re: Ex Occidente Press

Great review Des of the new Marvick piece. For those interested in my own thoughts on the Marvick, I have posted a review of MADMAN OF TOSTERGLOPE and also of John Howard's DEFEAT OF GRIEF on Goodreads.

Here are those links...

Re: Ex Occidente Press

During the last days I have received quite a few questions about the status of Virtue in Danger by Reggie Oliver. What I have said a couple of weeks ago remains valid. Virtue in Danger is high priority. Jonas Ploeger of Zagava Books is also in contact with the chief of my bindery, so all three of us are working together on making this book a memorable event.

As always, there are unpredictable delays. More fuel for anxiety and depression.

First, the bindery were busy with some 20,000 copies of an album, letting me no chance to break in with my own books. Then, a house / office renovation; another two weeks delay. And finally, the Orthodox Easter vacation, six days.

The books which should have been released this month are:

i. Virtue in Danger by Reggie Oliver
ii. Cities and Thrones and Powers by John Howard
iii. The Heraldist in Bucharest by Geticus Polus
iv Orphans on Granite Tides by Adam S. Cantwell
v. Dada Gnosis by D.T. Ghetu

Now we are looking for a very firmly May release date for all five titles above. I apologize for this delay.

In other news, if any of you will happen to be in Bucharest this July, I will be delighted to meet you.

This year, on July 7th (not June as I have wrongly announced on my mailing list), Ex Occidente Press will be featured in an exclusive book exhibition in the old center of Bucharest.

Seventeen publishers from Romania, Poland and Hungary have been invited. Small press publishers (not genre fiction). Discussions about book making, the literature of the small press, interviews &c. I hope to have at least three Ex Occidente Press authors present at the event in Bucharest. We shall see.

The exhibition will remain open for four days, perhaps five, I don't have yet the updated information. A video will be available soon after.

A mock-up cover for the poster of my press is attached.

Finally, a bizzare-looking package for a new serie of books called Fosforos. Small custom-made matchboxes, screen printed (serigraphy) little books on thick coloured paper. Each Fosforos box will contain between six and twelve books. Dada Gnosis contains seven books.

But perhaps the most important detail for the Library Fosforos volumes is the tiny matchstick which you will find inside all of matchboxes. All the Fosforos volumes are supposed to be burned after the first and single read.

I know I will do so with my own book.

Regards,
Dan

Re: Ex Occidente Press

I recently finished Colin Insole's beautiful novella, LAST GOLD OF DECAYED STARS. Here are my thoughts on it and his previous novella, OBLIVION"S POPPY.

I really enjoyed both. I'm hoping that there may be a collection of short stories sometime in the future for Mr. Insole... that would be fantastic.
