Re: Will del Toro's Mountains of Madness disappoint?
This is quite good...on del Toro, Lovecraft's influence on Alien; AvP and Mountains of Madness and more...
I found it interesting that del Toro regards the first 20 minutes of Alien as yet another film version of At the Mountains of Madness... http://alienexplorations.blogspot.co...lks-about.html

Re: Will del Toro's Mountains of Madness disappoint?
The previous link I posted was to an article on Alien and del Toro in which the director is quoted as saying John Campbell admitted ATMOM was the influence behind Who Goes There? That was news to me since I've never come across such an admission; it always seemed that Campbell just ignored that question.
Gahan Wilson was no fan of Unknown, the pulp magazine Campbell edited, and described it as publishing hokey stories by sci-fi guys who sneered at Lovecraft and most weird fiction in general. Asimov, a 'hostile' critic of Lovecraft, praised the Campbell story as the finest short work of science fiction ever written. That struck me as strange indeed. If anyone could direct me to Campbell's "admission" I'd be grateful. bty, directorial choices all ranged from interesting to inspired. Never thought of Spielberg before but, at his best, he might well deliver a Colour Out Of Space that wouldn’t make me wish for euthanasia on demand; while Scorsese and Charles Ward would simply be the best thing that ever happened to Lovecraft cinematically. Thanks, Hell-Ghost, Thanks Mark!
