Lovecraft and More

Hey folks, been really busy lately. I've got a digital piece going into a Lovecraft art exhibit in Switzerland in October. Here's a small sample from it..



This area looks completely different in the finished version.



I tweaked a photographic creature from the Lovecraft collage to look more drawn. I think it would make a good tshirt.

Here's a cropping from another digital piece titled "The Battle Of Blix" it is an epic war scene with cannons that are walking monsters shooting decapitated head cannonballs and other weird things..

And my Ligotti inspired work is still underway. I had to take some time off from it but I hope to have it finished before TOO long! My digital techniques have advanced a lot over the past year so there's a lot more I plan to do with it.

Thanks, and in the Lovecraft work I'm trying to imagine the unimaginable. Those horrors that Lovecraft writes about as things that are just too terrifying to even describe, those are the most enjoyable to try and visualize.

I still think your work would look great on postage stamps. Can you imagine a new type of mail - horror post or overnight terror express.

An excellent idea, waffles. It might even encourage those involved to deliver the mail in a timely manner.

Superb artwork; you channeling Heironymous Bosch?

Fantastic (!) pieces. I am really impressed and in awe. And I second Gene Stewart's comment: Are you channeling Heironymous Bosch? Looks very much like updated versions of his bizarre works.

Well I haven't heard of postage stamps before, that's an idea. And yes, Bosch is certainly an influence. Here's a small fragment from the center panel of the Lovecraft triptich which I finished this past weekend..

Your Lovecraftian artwork is truly awesome.

Thanks, going insane trying to bring this sucker to completion. Here's another small detail that is still in progress. Finished version will have a weird diamond tip at the end of the lizards tail and a slightly different background.. This is actually directly to the left of the last work I posted. You can see a reflected version of the building on the right that matches with the left of the upper image. This is used as a surface layer that I'll use to build up other architectural/texture/etc layers onto.

Here is the finished artwork printed out and framed in Switzerland at the Exhibit of Unspeakable Things. Bit of a glare but it still looks nice.

If you'd like to see this in print form the Museum is doing a run of art catalogues in which the work will appear. And an interesting coincidence, this artwork is going to be published again in a second Lovecraft art book coming out early next year which will have an afterward by none other than one of my favorite authors, Thomas Ligotti. Apparently the book will be autographed by the likes of H.R Giger, Mike Mignola, Michael Whelan, J.K Potter and other amazing talents, so I'm very excited to have my work involved in this as well.

Is the second book you refer to the volume coming out from Centipede press? I preordered mine from Shocklines and can't wait for it to come out.

Yes, that would be the one. And I wish I could go to Switzerland to see the exhibit as well! And for anyone keeping track, my interpretation of Teatro Grotessco is very much on my mind and has grown from its original concept into something bigger and better. The original is being incorporated into a larger composition that, while taking some time to complete, will look absolutely fantastic. I only regret that there might not be anywhere for it to be properly published when it is done.

I saw the exhibit; your pieces were certainly among the highlights, Aeron. The exhbit was really big and well done, with the art raging from caricature to nightmare inducing works (as can be seen above) and in my opinion the catalogue doesn't do it justice. Not all artists have been featured with their best pictures. If the maison d'ailleurs keeps organising such great exhibitions, it's definitely worth visiting.

Aeron, I just want to congratulate you on your artwork. Shades of the immortal Pickman, I think...
