Re: Ex Occidente Press

Some of you might have seen this already - a complete (yes, that's right) Ex Occidente/Passport Levant set is up on ebay here:
with a dizzying array of wonderful extra items thrown in. I have approximately 80% of the books on offer here and am contemplating to buy the set just for those bonus items. Have a look, it's amazing stuff (and most definitely the cheapest way to get all of these fine books altogether, some have been oop for almost as long as they have been out there)

Re: Ex Occidente Press

It took them over one whole month to finish the boxes, but here, finally, here they are. I, humm, apologize, for the lack of a more artsy decorum in the attached photography. I know I should have perhaps added a glass of wine and a candle to give it a more moody air but alas, I refuse to take such things with me while in a taxi!

These are the last 40 boxes. 21 of them are already paid for; my long tried customers should have their copies in the next two weeks. There remain 19 copies of Tarshishim. I have a feeling that this volume will soon become the rarest book in my catalogue.

I should not end this message before sharing with you the title of the new George Berguno Ex Occidente Press volume. A Spell of Subtle Hunting. As some of you might guess from the title, it is a homage to Ernst Junger, the most daunting and kindest of the Titans. I've been speaking with George for years now about a possible Ernst Junger homage volume. Not quite the easiest story to tell, we've agreed. I am thus very happy and indeed very honoured to publish this unexpected volume, this gentle masterpiece from George Berguno.
I am nearly finished writing the definitive version of A Spell of Subtle Hunting (you know, the Junger story set in Paris 1944), and will have it ready by the end of January. It's turning out to be a beautiful story. A real tribute to the writer, but with enough ambiguity to satisfy everyone.
Regards,
Dan

Re: Ex Occidente Press

This world is burning.

Think of Alfred Tesseller as your father but also as your mourner.

The Ten Dictates of Alfred Tesseller by Dan Watt is coming soon now, as a fully illustrated deluxe volume.

I. A Wake
II. There Shall Be Nothing But You
III. Tomorrow is a Cinder
IV. Beware the Dust!
V. You Have Nothing Left to Give
VI. There are Caverns in the Firmament
VII. If Only There was Not Here
VIII. Your Skin will Fold like Memories
IX. Love was Once a Law
X. Before the Aphorism came the Platitude
XI. Places Vanish, like Your Names
Only a mock cover, nothing more.

Regards,
Dan

Re: Ex Occidente Press

In every bourgeois family, there is one child who has a soul.

Secret Europe is about these children. More than a literary and pictorial memory, Secret Europe is a memory of Fragrances. Secret Europe has a Fragrance.

It is with tremendous pleasure that I announce the imminent release of Secret Europe by Mark Valentine and John Howard.

As it happens, Secret Europe will be the first volume of a new imprint called Exposition Internationale. There will only be three or four books released through this imprint. The Exposition Internationale books are considerably larger volumes than the usual Ex Occidente Press book, each of them measuring 29 cm x 22 cm, each with an unique layout and packing.

I attach here a short preview of what I consider to be the finest collection of the latest years.

Regards,
Dan

Re: Ex Occidente Press

There's a (mouth-watering) first review of "Secret Europe" already up at BIBLIOMANCY

"Howard and Valentine do not emulate the decadent work of writers past, they carry the torch forward. Secret Europe should not be considered a tribute to aestheticism, but rather a welcome progression of its artistic ideals."

and

"Secret Europe is precisely that. It is a Europe rife with past possibilities, potential people and places left unrealized by fate until they found life in the minds of John Howard and Mark Valentine. Their stories are told with grace and subtleness, intelligence of style and an aesthetic beauty that both embraces and belies their modernity. The authors are not emulating the decadent literature of the past. They are not paying homage to another era. With Secret Europe they are championing the poetic principle, and in doing so adding their unique voices to the aesthetic chorus."

it can't be long now.

My copy of "Tarishishim" arrived today. It's the most gorgeous book from Ex Occidente so far.

Re: Ex Occidente Press

Thank you very much, Jason Rolfe, doctor of Beauty, for a review as a sensual sword flurry. A review which confirms Gide's postulate, that a work of art is achieved only with the most virtuous elements of the mind.

Secret Europe is now in stock and shipping.

130 copies will be in the mail to customers, review places, etc by Monday, 20 February.

I attach a first sneak photo, for size comparison. A regular Ex Occidente Press volume and the first Exposition Internationale book. More photos will follow soon.

Regards,
Dan
