Re: Ex Occidente Press

This would be my last update for the next two weeks, what with the work on the next three volumes (This Hermetic Legislature, The Ten Dictates of Alfred Tesseller and Virtue in Danger) and the shipping.

As I have promised, the curios should find attached a few more photos of Secret Europe, including photography of a part of the signed old vintage European postcards which comes together with the first copies of book.

Lastly but certainly not least, I would like to share with you the author, the title and the contents for the second Exposition Internationale volume.

Conflagration by Dan P. Watt.

It announces to be a major literary event, not only for the "scene" but for the whole European literature in general.

Regards,
Dan

Re: Ex Occidente Press

Secret Europe is wonderful, Dan. I can think of no better package for the words Valentine and Howard have crafted than an Ex Occidente binding...

Re: Ex Occidente Press

There is a German saying: "über seinen eigenen Schatten springen", which I am doing with this here post.

John Howard's and Mark Valentine's "Secret Europe" has arrived here in Germany yesterday. It's a simply wonderful looking book: the size, although not quite the Atlas it was once intended to be, is great, not too big to handle but suitably impressive. You're holding a weighty tome in every sense of the word. The embossed dust jacket looks great, too, overall a classy, well designed book.
It's quite obviously not a "genre" book, it by far transcends easy categorisation, both as far as the content (readers of Messrs. Valentine and Howard books will be well aware of that) and the presentation are concerned.

If you have enjoyed any of Mark's or John's previous books (and how could one not enjoy the "Connoisseur" tales or the previous Ex Occidente stuff?) you should do yourself a favour and acquire this masterpiece before it sells out. (and I am not being payed to say that, on the contrary!)

I haven't read it all yet, but as far as I have gotten, Mr.Rolfe seems to be quite right on the mark (no pun intended) with his review quoted elsewhere in this thread.

I have a question for Nigromontanus: what is the significance of your avatar on here?

Oh, and happy birthday John Howard!

Re: Ex Occidente Press

While I was watching a tedious 0-0 between West Ham (I'm masochistic enough to follow that particular football team) and Crystal Palace down at the pub, a mailman came by with a package slip stating that there is something for me from Romania. I am, I think understandably, very excited.

Re: Ex Occidente Press

Mr. Hughes - good luck w/ this one. I very much hope to read it someday.

Your story in the Bulgakov tribute is one of the best in the book- my favorite Hughes tale thus far.
