The New Nonsense

Grimscribe
This is fun -- and so well-timed, now that I'm in this strange new obsessive frame of mentality regarding all things Lovecraftian. I've joined their group at Facebook and intend to submit a new Innsmouth story to yem once I've completed work on WEIRD INHABITANTS OF SESQUA VALLEY. One of the strangest things in New England was when I had authentic New England chowder in ye early after-noon we spent in Innsmouth -- to discover that, unlike what I was used to, a thick creamy stock, authentic New England chowder (in the smaller towns) had a thin watery stock. In Boston, at our fancy hotel, the chowder was as I am accustomed to seeing it, a thick creamy white substance.

Back when I used to live in Salem, MA, I often frequented a place called "Red's". They were voted "Best Clam Chowder in New England" many years running. Perhaps they still are. It was well deserved. Easily the best chowder I've ever had. It was of the thick and creamy variety. Now that I live in the Midwest, it's near impossible to find good chowder. Often it's adulterated by the blasphemous addition of corn, ham, carrots and other nonsense to better suit the Midwestern palette.

This is Red's chowder. Mmmmm!

I work in the suburbs of Chicago. On Fridays, the cafeteria used to serve something Clam Chowder - Bistro Style. They would take the corn-ridden chowder from the week before and mix it with French Onion soup. I never tried it - would you? One of my co-workers declared it gasphemy (gastronomic blasphemy). They no longer serve it.

Truly Eldritch!
