Ragnarock Now
Does anyone else here live in the Midwestern Estados Unidos, maybe Iowa perchance? Time is money for a lower class chap like myself, I don't want to call in to work, but after 16 inches since last night the snow is still raining down with 50 mile/hour wind gusts that are shaking the #### out of the giant oak trees around here. I think I am bold, if I were alone on the road I would certainly brave the elements and get up to work. The essential pitfall here being, when you introduce a multitude of human beings into the equation, a risky situation becomes almost immeasurable dangerous. So I'll complete my thought, -I think I am bold, but I am not stupid, . . . I hope.
Ahhh, I can hear the wind blowing at jet stream velocity just outside my window as I write this, if this wasn't a work day it would be an interesting thing to wake up to. Such luck, this isn't the case today. Anyone else here baring witness to the fury of the gods?

Re: Ragnarock Now
Here in Michigan we did not get that much snow. We got three or so inches. It has now turned to rain but is projected to change back to snow before it is time to head home from work. We are supposed to get another 4 or 5 inches of snow tonight.
I hope you were able to get to work safely!! I know the other drivers scare me more than the weather most of the time!!!

Re: Ragnarock Now
I live in usually-sunny California, at the base of the Sierra Foothills east of Sacramento. The weather freaked out this week, and we got an inch of snow at our house. It rarely snows at all here, and never sticks... There is still snow in my backyard from Sunday night. My folks got six inches just a few miles up the road, and had to shovel the driveway to get their car out.
My friends in Minnesota and Colorado are laughing at us, but this is super rare for this area. My parents have lived in the area for 10 years, and have never seen it this bad. We are not being blasted at the same magnitude as you Midwest folks, but dang... Enough already!

Re: Ragnarock Now
Its a bad movie, but it draws comparison. Anyone ever see that scene in Constantine (hey, that has a nice spoken beat) where the esteemed thespian Keanu Reeves is walking through the landscape of flaming rubble? Well, replace the fire with frigid winds, ice, and snow, as well as near utter darkness and you'll have a good idea as to how the drive to work was. My friend's picnic table has twenty inches accumulated upon it. As long as they clear off the highways with haste, I actually hope the snow stays for a while- nice for various outdoor activities.

We, too, were pummeled up here in a Midwestern city not so far from the Northern Border. The heavy snowfall and brisk winds are brutish forces I love to observe from a warm perch behind glass, but absolutely despise having to go out in.

Re: Ragnarock Now
I live in Iowa city, Iowa, where we nearly got a foot of snow. I had to go to work at the ungodly hour of 3am Wednesday morning. Of course, the plows hadn't yet cleared the streets. I was lucky to make it. On days like that, I dream of either being self-employed as a book dealer (like my father) or that I'll move somewhere warm. For now, the snow has me entrenched.

Re: Ragnarock Now
Today I've discovered that even though I have to walk to work each day over 2 km (that's one way, 4 km incl. return) through a deserted suburban landscape where a trail leading through an overgrown meadow is my only foothold, I can still be exited about snow. Snow makes me brood - not always a good thing, but at least it provides me with some incentives to be creative.
And I love to see snow disrupt everyday routine (not that I like to see it cause too much damage). Time stops. Today is the first real day of snow and I'm back to TLO!

Re: Ragnarock Now
I'd like to have cold weather for a change. In Manila, it's 31C (as warm as summer) when it's supposed to be 18 to 22C.
Here's one article that explains the problem briefly: http://www.thedailygreen.com/environ...waves-47082601 |
