Agonizing Update From Centipede Press
I just received this update from Centipede Press:
Thomas Ligotti news The Agonizing Resurrection of Victor Frankenstein and Other Gothic Tales will soon be going to press. This item is not available for pre-order yet, but I wanted to run by some details. First, it is gorgeously typeset and designed. Harry O. Morris has contributed ten new full color illustrations for the book, and they are magnificent. The book itself will be a slim volume measuring 6.5 inches wide and 11 inches tall. It will have fancy endsheets, ribbon marker, Mylar dustjacket, top-edge stain, and other fancy elements. Each book is signed by Thomas Ligotti and Harry O. Morris. The edition will be limited to 500 copies for sale. Each book is numbered. We are thinking of a price around $75. What else do you all expect to see for a book of that price? Any of your thoughts are welcome! Best Regards, Jerad Jerad Walters Centipede Press 2565 Teller Court Lakewood, Colorado 80214 phone: 303/231-9720 jerad@centipedepress.com Welcome to Centipede Press The price is about what I expected and will be paid without hesitation, especially since I don't have a copy of this book yet. But the question remains: What else do you all expect to see for a book of that price? Any of your thoughts are welcome! Any suggestions? I hate to put Tom to work, but a smallish essay on the origin of these stories would be nice. Maybe photos of the various publications in which they were first published. Hm.... and every interview by TL that I haven't been able to track down. Hm.. and ....

Re: Agonizing Update From Centipede Press
I am extremely excited about this book. At that price, 500 copies may sell out very quickly, so if you want this extremely rare item, order it instantly once it is announced. I seem to remember Jerad telling me that Tom has heavily revised much of the text -- but I may be misremembering, so don't quote me. THIS IS RAD!!!!! The book is so rare and ungawdly expensive in its other edition.

Re: Agonizing Update From Centipede Press
for seventy five? tucking in some other lower-pagecount out-of-print ligotti material would be appreciated. Death Poems, perhaps. somehow turn one book for that price into multiple books between one cover for that price.
or include a disc/usb-stick with the book in assorted ebook formats, perhaps with other digital goodies. Spendy pretty book for the shelf, ebook for loading onto electronic gizmo and toting around with other digital content. Ligottian bumper stickers would be neat too. Cthulhu gets all the weird-tale tailgate space. "my other car is MALIGNANTLY USELESS" "honk if you have nothing to do, nowhere to go, nothing to be, no one to know" any sort of cool pack-ins would be a very big plus at that price point since edge-stains and other fancy book-decor don't really do anything for me. Mostly, I would much rather see an unsigned, no pack-ins, no fancy anything trade paperback between 20 and 35 dollars.

Re: Agonizing Update From Centipede Press
Although I haven't seen the boards yet (obviously) I have seen the layout and contents of the book in .pdf format, and I doubt you'll be disappointed with the final product, despite the price. Harry Morris's illo's are some his best work ever, and if you think about it, a tome that was otherwise out of many people's reach for a long time due to scarcity and hence, high price, will be available once more, and it'll be a stunner. In terms of aesthetics, I think this may be the most beautiful book with Tom's name on it that's been published since the black beauty that was the Durtro (limited, purple type-set) variation of Teatro Grottesco, not taking anything away from all others (I am a huge fan of Aeron's artwork on the new SoaDD) since they are all fine books. For any of you who own Centipede Press books already, you know how fine they are overall, and like I said, I am sure this will be no exception.
You know the drill with these limited edition books...you have to decide which you're willing to give up to own them...an arm or a leg, but that's why you were given two of each. ;)

Re: Agonizing Update From Centipede Press
I sold my entire library of 60 books just so as to be sure to get a copy of this along with my LE Sub Press Grimscribe. A bit extreme, I know, but that's how much Ligotti's work means to me and how addicted I've become about collecting his LE books. Everything else pales in comparison and has become obsolete.

Re: Agonizing Update From Centipede Press
very true, and given that this is a Frankenstein story, the arms and legs I give up don't necessarily have to be my own ;).
I'm gonna order it if they don't sell out before I have a chance. I may gripe about it not cooking me breakfast and doing the dishes after, but once I get to reading it I'll quit complaining.

Re: Agonizing Update From Centipede Press
I saw the update the other day. Less than $100 is very reasonable for this book. It will be interesting to see what happens to the older edition of TAROVFAOGT after this new one is released.
The Silver Salamander paperbacks and hardcovers probably comprise the rarest Ligotti title floating around out there in the greatest numbers. I expect some deflation will occur in prices, or they'll just sit longer without buyers. The first edition will always be collectible and probably more expensive than Centipede's reprint, but less so in the near future thanks to this re-release.

Re: Agonizing Update From Centipede Press
Usually, books retain there value even after a new edition is released (unless that value was over-inflated, which isn't the case here). Owners of the first editions ought not to worry.
Of course, a book is worthless -- monetarily speaking -- until it's sold, and only then when the buyer makes his or her bid, so this is all academic.

Re: Agonizing Update From Centipede Press
I saw this update from Jerad a few days ago and am simultaneously very excited and anxious incase they sell out.I already own a sealed shrinkwrapped paperback version and a hardback version (paid about $240 for it) of TAROVF but their monetary value is an irrelavence to me as I would never sell them anyway.I was abit surprised about the price of the Centipede Press book after reading the desription of it, although I will still buy it. The only other books I have by Centipede Press are the Lovecraft Art book and the Reggie Oliver book. That is a massive 900 page plus book and was $150, so $75 for a book with a substantially lower page count was a surprise to me. Still Centipede Press produce wonderful books and I am more than willing to pay the price as i'm sure another 499 people are as well ;)

Re: Agonizing Update From Centipede Press
Jared put out a request via email for people to let him know what potential buyers, collectors, etc.. should expect for a $75 book. I'm assuming this is aside from the complete text and any extra's that are germane... like should it have a slipcase for $75, decorated endsheets, more commissioned art, etc.. As long is it is as beautiful as the text / content itself I'd gladly pay $75 but I know many may not. Apparently your opinion counts and Jared is listening...
