introductions

Hello all,
I’m new to the TLO list as well as to the roster of Ex Occidente Press writers and thought to introduce myself and my recent work. As a long-time lover of horror fiction and film, it’s quite an honor to be included among so many exceptional writers whose texts are given EOP’s beautiful packaging and design.

My general vision of fiction, horror or otherwise, entails a great deal of inter-textuality and is always executed according to a minimalist aesthetic. With no intention to “dazzle” the reader with references, I’m nevertheless compelled by fiction that asserts linkages between ideas/other texts/disciplines so that the story becomes an assemblage of sorts. My EOP book, The Light is Alone, which will appear in two volumes beginning this month, evokes everything from the spirit of Beckett to Argento, to 20th/21st century continental philosophy, to the imagistic Satanism of seminal Metal band Mercyful Fate. And it does so with language that endeavors to strip narrative of certain conventions. My stories seek, in other words, to capture the attention of the reader with both the immediacy of their literary time and thematic examinations of evil in various incarnations.

One of my hopes is that as readers connect with my fiction, they will observe connections to writers of whom I may not even be aware and make it a point to share these observations. I’m a bit more clued into contemporary French and American dramatic fiction than to contemporary horror and am eager to shift that balance.

Welcome indeed. The Danvil seems to have quite a few very odd tricks up his sleeves off late. I, for one, am immensely looking forward to 4 of the most substantially different books he has published so far. Yours sounds very intriguing indeed. The cover looks rather neat, too.

Welcome Thomas. Your influences sound really interesting and highly eclectic. Can't wait to get the book in my hands. I'm sure it will be fantastic!!

Delighted to hear from you all! And looking forward to digging deeper into TLO.

Today in my horror seminar, we have Lovecraft's "The Outsider" on tap. Coming up, Karl Edward Wagner's "Sticks," a sublime story for those of you who may not know it..
