If you enjoyed Concrete, then I think you would also like Yes. Of the longer novels, Correction is considered by many to be his masterpiece, but I like Extinction better. Extinction was really a page-turner for me. Also, his harrowing autobiography, Gathering Evidence, is one of the best things he ever wrote.
As our "resident Bernhardian," which Bernhard novels would you recommend? I've read Concrete, The Loser, and The Voice Imitator (I enjoyed Concrete the most)
Beautiful and powerful poem. Thanks, Nicole. I wish I could read Bernhard in German.
“Mein Hirn schwimmt am Abend der Sonne zu . . .” from Unter dem Eisen des Mondes (1958), by Thomas Bernhard (trans. James Reidel)

My mind drifts into the evening sun,
my soul hangs in the broken branches,
my spring drifts in the forests, my summer,
I am tired again, oh, the stick of early days
    beats me with memory.

My mind drifts into the evening sun,
drinking the blood of night and the pond,
drinking the hills, valleys, dull words,
it cries out in darkness, cries before trees
creaking in rotten dreams from a raving death.

My mind drifts into the evening sun,
my God, the twilight sleeps, the wind blows
across barren fields, the clouds drive
restlessness into this death that buries me
and conjures back my laughter’s flowers
in the wild beaks of black birds.
Viva June, If you're morbidly curious (as I unfortunately am), the autopsy report was just made public. It's at The Smoking Gun website. On a less morbid note, I've recently been reading some of DFW's essays, and they're amazingly good.
Thank you for linking to that DFW article; it really is both harrowing and oddly exciting.
