Dear Alberto,I hope that you are all right. I hope that you found the job that you were looking for. I never thought that your opinions were outragous. In fact, I usually learned something when I read your comments.I agree with you about Ligotti and philosophy as well. In my opinion I think that Ligotti has become much less of a writer since he became so serious. His rewritten works are a lot weaker than his earlier versions. He's started to take all of that dismal stuff way too seriously. He's become a preacher. I'm a practicing Catholic myself, but I don't preach. If my example doesn't affect anyone then me standing on a street corner with a bullhorn isn't going to do anything either. If I'm wrong then no harm is done. If I'm right then maybe my prayers and sacrifices will make a difference.I hope that your family is well. I've been dealing with my work, which has become a kind of nightmare. Wish me luck.
Dear Alberto,I've been looking at the pictures of the Neville house and it looks like to haunted house of my childhood. In the picture marked "Exterior-House Front" the window on the right would be the one with the old lady in the chair. In the one marked "Interior-Center Hall the door under the stairs, if it leads to the cellar pantry, should be the one where the man stood at the foot of the steps. The house has been extremely reworked and the new paint job is lighter both inside and outside. The weir visible in satellite photos is the most convincing item identifying the house as the haunted one. Unfortunately, removing the kitchen and returning the house to pre-19th century conditions may have chased the ghosts away. Do you know of any authentic haunted houses?Yours,Ken
Dear Alberto,The house has had a lot of work done to it, so there may no longer be any activity. What little I know about what is called the supernatural leads to to this working, unproven theory: I think that we may leave something of ourself behind in places where we spend a lot of time or have strong emotions. I think of houses or rooms where people spend decades of their life. The houses and rooms take on their personality. Could they also leave electromagnetic parts of themselves behind as well? It would make sense as most reported hauntings (as opposed to the more prosaic presences) involve highly charged emotional situations such as murder, suicide and the like. Ghosts may bemore like holograms than anything supernatural.
I am fascinated by the comics represented in your albums. Where did you find these? Do you own the originals or did you find them online?
This looks like it. The interior has been changed a lot, but hte basic layout is the same. The upstairs windows look right and the outbuildings are right. I looked at the wikimapia picrute of the grounds and the position next to Chartiers Creek near the small weir or dam is right. The big interstate took away about half of the land but what's left appears correct. This looks like the place.
I'm sorry but I don't understand why you keep misquoting me. The things that we call ghosts or hauntings all may have a perfectly natural explaination. I have said so myself in other posts. All I ever said was that I don't understand them. (I guess that that isn't very surprising since there is so much that I don't understand.) I fully expect that, if we ever have an answer, it will be something simple and natural. However, this may be one of the things that never has an answer. Science is merely observation and theorizing. We have no facts or laws; all that we really have are reasonably proven theories. They rarely last. There is so much to life that we will never know rationally and so much that we will never know at all that I am content to live surrounded by mysteries.Yours,Ken
Dear Alberto,I finally tracked down that haunted house that I mantioned months ago. Please excuse the delay but all of the people who could have given me a simple answer are now dead, so I had to do a lot of research to come up with the answer. The house is named "Woodville" and was built by General John Neville. The first building went up around 1775 so that makes it one of the oldest houses in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. Neville was commander of the fort at the point where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers come together to form the Ohio River. He was a General in our war for Independence and had a 400 acre farm south of the city. The address is 1375 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, PA 15071-2821. My parents' friends sold the farm to the Pennsylvania Historical Society in 1975 and the society has been restoring it to its appearance in about 1790.
    Yours,
    Ken Duffy
Hi Alberto. Thanks for your reply on forum.I didn"t know that Thomas Ligotti sold books too.Does he have an address?I live in England and found "Shadow" in my local bookshop.Best wishes.
Thanks you for the opportunity to engage in such a invigorating discussion in the Reverse text topic. I've spent way too much time on it, but am really grateful for the opportunity. Wholeheartedly I thank you for asking the questions you asked.
I think that you are right in most cases. I think that a lot of the members create names in the sense of play, but also that they are, without thought or question, following the internet tradition of using aliases while on the internet. I, on the other hand, put people in jail and charge pthers penalties of thousands of dollars. I don't want these irrate folks to have my name. Still, I'm not hiding anything. My family name is Duffy and I use the initial. I got the Mr. part from an old Rolling Stones song "Dancing with Mr. D." I think that I deserve some respect and if i don't insist on it I won't get it.
Shirley Jackson is best known for the novel The Haunting and the short story "The Lottery." There was an excellent movie made from the novel. I can recommend any work of hers.
Alberto, Mr. Ligotti may consider carnivals sinister because they are somewhat seedy, sleazy, and shady. Bear in mind the scary clowns and the creepy freak show...
I thought this was enabled. I will have a look tomorrow. I have been away for two days and must regain my footing once again.
