I seem to recall that Owl Head Guy was a thing on YouTube as well, or at the very least something that looked similar. They would place hidden cameras in certain rooms of derelict houses where people were entering, then have Owl Head Guy come striding out of the shadows to scare them.

I still think Threads is one of the most frightening movies ever made. Its horrors far outweigh those of any actual horror movie.
