13 Haunting Facts About Poe's Death

I think the worst part of Poe's death is that he may have been a victim of cooping. Also, the fact that his death prevented his literary magazine The Stylus from being published. And Rufus Wilmot Griswold basically pissing all over his grave.

Also, the fact that Deep in Earth, The Beloved Physician and The Light-House were left unfinished, as Politian and The Journal of Julius Rodman before.

The haunting fact of Poe's death is that such an event never happened, as every tenebrous titillation of mania evoked by his prose or verse forever lingers in my horror-haunted mind, as with many others. When I read Poe, I feel as I do with Lovecraft or Ligotti, that I am reading accounts of my most secret, naked dreams. Like Morella or Ligeia, he is gone but ever reviving. The spectre of his consciousness swells tumescently within my brain, threatening to take over and spill its dark splendour over the flesh of the ether-smothered, twirling rock I sit upon.

'And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me—filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before'

I feel the urge to re-read Poe today. He's still the best at all this, probably.
