Best Book Bargains

One of the authors that had a higher score than Ligotti in the book 150 Exquisite Horror Books by Alessandro Manzetti was the author Charlee Jacob.

Even though I have one of her books, Dread in the Beast (I have no idea why I own it) I put her on my want list on eBay because I wanted to explore more of her work. About a week later, I got a notification that her book Haunter was a new listing and had a Buy it Now price of $14.99. I checked other prices. They ranged on eBay from $112 to $279. On AbeBooks, the price ranged from $116 to $505. (which is ridiculous). I bought it. I got it in the mail recently. I could always sell it, but I never do.

Just a heads-up for anyone interested in a copy of The Complete Fiction of Bruno Schulz. There is a copy for sale for less than $20 on eBay and at ABEBooks. (probably the same seller) I can't vouch for the seller or the condition of the book, but the price is very good.

I generally have ended up paying about the going rate for most items that I really want, especially on Ebay but there have been a few surprises. I won a mint copy of Crypt of Cthulhu #68 The Ligotti Issue for 22 Euros (including shipping) on the French Ebay two years ago. Also a few years ago I picked up Ligotti's SOADD in the original 1985 Silver Scarab edition for 150$. It is in excellent condition but has some of the rubbing to the cover that is pretty much universal for that book. That seemed a bargain.

Two weeks ago I was the sole bidder and won the original signed and numbered hardcover of The Color of Occam by Jonathan Thomas which I have been searching for five years. It cost me 55$ including shipping and I was overjoyed. I hope that the same happens to me for a copy of W H Pugmire’s Tangled Muse and TED Kleins PS slipcased edition of The Ceremonies (which I somehow missed when it came out). I haven't been able to locate either of those.

My biggest bargain was picking up a mint 1927 edition of Arthur Machen’s The Three impostors for 50cents at a thrift store. It came the THE CAERLEON EDITION of the Works of Arthur Machen but was the only volume of that set that they had. I ended up giving that copy to a friend after, at a later date, I picked up the whole set of 9 volumes for far more money.

I don't know why it took me so long to get this book, but after a few weeks of searching, I found a copy for $17 postpaid. And it is in great shape.

That’s a steal. Definitely worth the wait. Let us know what you think once you get into it!
