Listening to Iggy Pop recount his murder of the old man has been one of the more surreal experiences of my week. Jeff Buckley's rendition of "Ulalume" is beautiful. And Ken Nordine's recitation of "The Conqueror Worm" is surely definitive. I urge Ligottians to get your hands on it.
 
I have this cd, Bleak & Icy. I agree, it is a wonderful item. I have actually bid on the Ralph Steadman promo poster (it's the same as the cover image) on eBay. We all know how that turned out. Walken's narration of the Raven is everything you would hope it would be. Check your library. My library has a copy.
 
My favorites has always been Byrne's reading of 'Masque. . . This only makes sense though since it happens to be my favorite Poe story.

Re: clos'd on account of rabies: Jeff Buckley's reading of "Ulalume" is probably my favorite track, although Gavin Friday's "For Annie" never fails to chill me heart & soul.
 
Has anyone heard Loe Reed's The Raven? I just got a used copy but have yet to find timeto listen to it.
 
I have both the "Closed on Account of Rabies" (well, I have an old cassette tape of it) and Lou Reed's "The Raven".

Of the former, I like best the "Ulalume" and "For Annie" performances. Listen out for the "phew" at the end of "For Annie"... it must have been an intense experience.

There are lots of tracks on "The Raven" I like, especially the Bowie sung "Hopfrog" and "Who am I?". The monologue by Amanda Plummer is splendid, ending with the immortal line "Businessmen? They're not worth shitting on". Overall, the production is very much improved by Antony (of Antony & The Johnsons) on backing vocals.

I do recall though, with "The Raven" that it took some four or five turns before I really got into it.

I've listened to the Lou Reed only twice and have yet to really appreciate it. You've put me in the mood to listen again to-night.

i have a five cd set with Price and Rathbone reading. Vincent reads "Ligeia," "Ye Imp of ye Perverse," "Morella," "Berenice" and "The Gold Bug." I wonder if anyone here has done a thread on the Poe films over the years? I finally bought the "House of Usher" starring Vincent Price and I really love it.
