EldritchDark.com is gone

Don’t jump the gun. Eldritch Dark goes down several times; I’ve seen it happen myself, and I’ve even considered documenting it on some wikis. It’s not necessary, though, because it always comes back, usually with even more images in the gallery. It’s redirecting to the Hippocampus Press site right now, isn’t it?

Yeah it is. I emailed the Hippocampus webmaster and they said:
Thanks for writing. I miss the Eldritch Dark site as much as you do, and one of the weirder aspects is that many pages reroute to my own site, Hippocampus Press. I have no insight to offer on the Eldritch Dark, alas.

Well, don’t worry. Eldritch Dark comes and goes. The webmaster seems to have disappeared. I’ve seen it go offline and come back twice. The last time, I thought it wasn’t coming back, but then it returned with new sculptures in the gallery.

It's up. Abandoned, but still up. In some of Smith's semi autobiographic stories he prophesied his complete erasure from human memory. Maybe we should accept it as fate, and leave him to the last few remaining connoisseurs.

Going back to the matter of Smith. I know I am nothing compared to Smith, but I am a writer, and I have my own vision and way of thinking when it comes to my fiction.

I started out writing Creepypastas. One day, by personal decision, I decided that they should all be deleted from every site. To this day, there are still people who write to the email address I used, and under the pseudonym I used for the Creepypastas, asking about those dead links and whether I can send them the texts so they can read them. I had my reasons for deleting them. I wanted them to be forgotten.

I have a great deal of respect for what @Knygathin says about Smith. Many authors have certain perspectives and visions of what they want their legacy to be like... sometimes people interfere after an author has died and show a lack of respect for the author's wishes. We saw it with Lovecraft himself.

The Eldritch Dark is there. It goes down and comes back, goes down and comes back. If one day it goes down permanently... don't make a mirror.

Those who have downloaded the images from the gallery, like Knygathin, will always have them... but I believe Klarkash-Ton's vision should be respected.

Ex oblivione, and not wanting to be remembered, is something I have been able to understand.

Although, I am not certain it was Smith's active wish not to be rememberered or famous; he was dissatisfied and upset with the action-oriented literary market enforced upon him by publishers, the lack of understanding and appreciation for pure poetry. He struggled for income success on is own terms, and achieved some of it with moderation. But his cosmic perspective was that nothing manifested remains permanent, everything crumbles, grinded down to dust and oblivion; his spirit moving on to other stars and dimensions. The star treader, so to speak. In that sense he was openminded, whilst his colleague Lovecraft did not believe in the continuation of a person's spirit (although he appreciated the artistic and dreamy value of such fantastic vision. And he also accepted that science did not yet have full understanding of reality, and that his own materialist mechanistic perspective was a rough grasp of things).
What is Ligotti's standpoint here; somewhere in-between; more pessimistic, nihilistic fatalistic ???
