Also, Michael Bernanos's "The Other Side of the Mountain." It's in the Vandermeer's "The Weird." That anthology has some outstanding samples of International Weird so can give some good guidance. You might also look through Snuggly Press's catalogue. They have some wonderful Eurpoean Weird works.

And Hanns Heinz Ewers, beginning to read him.

The Monk is well written, but it has so much disgusting Catholicism in it that it was difficult to take.

Ewer's "The Spider" is a classic.

I was looking up stories by Ewers later and ChatGPT said this: (“Der Horla”): Ewers’ adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s classic story, where the protagonist grapples with an invisible, malevolent presence.

I wonder if this AI is hallucinating again, or used "adaptation" instead of "translation", or if he did write an adaptation. Does anyone know?
