I've got it! That old tune was itself sung (if I remember correctly) to "On Top of Spaghetti."

"...all covered with cheese/I lost my poor meatball/when somebody sneezed"

Would have to be some powerful sneeze, wouldn't it? For a meatball to be dislodged from cheese?
