Literary News

As Robert mentioned, both Quinn volumes have been available for awhile.
I have both, but have not read either yet.
Volume 3 is already up for preorder.
The price from Night Shade is better than what George Vanderburgh would ask at his Battered Lunchbox (?) site.

I did not know Weinberg had died.
He had been working through the Donald M Grant site.
I wonder who will tend that now.
I also remember both he and Vanderburgh attempted to revive Arkham House (theirs was the last flyer I received).
Anyway, the Quinn Vol 3 has a scheduled release of March 2018.

I seriously try'd to enjoy that first volume of ye de Grandin stories--but I've finally given up, the stories are awful and boring. At first this made me sad--I really wanted to like this book--but then I thought of all the money I'll be saving by not purchasing the other four volumes, so that cheer'd me up a wee bit.

Up for pre-order. Not slated to be published until October 2, 2018. (This may have been mentioned before and I missed it.)

Question: Has Ligotti been published in Russian yet?

Any word on the English translation of Zapffe's On the Tragic?

This is excellent news. As to the cover, however, all I'll say is the book deserves much better, especially considering we're talking Penguin here.

(I felt similarly about the Dead Dreamer + Grimscribe reissue.)

This isn't one of the worst cover I've ever seen, but it comes pretty close. The image notwithstanding, the typography is all over the place.

Maybe they love british people then.

I don't hate the UK cover, I just was excited for the other cover and didn't realize we didn't get that one until I saw it in shops. On the plus side, the UK version don't bother with introductions.

It's a quietly appealing cover in classic '50s/'60s paperback style, unlike the standard prettified Photoshop job on the US edition. The Ballard blurb is always a plus. I may have to pick one up for myself.

Digital painting?! Oh man. It looks like any random "selfie" with some sort of Instagram filter applied to it. That's probably the point, sadly.

It also has this annoyingly blatant, literal-minded quality, like a bad movie poster with the stars' faces plastered all over it. I'll go for something a little more abstract like the UK cover every time.
