The Face of Horror

I really enjoyed Anna Biller's The Love Witch from 2016. Her follow-up, The Face of Horror, is coming soon.

A ghost in medieval England rises from her grave to seek revenge on her husband, in a gory tribute to classic Technicolor horror films.

Director: Anna Biller
Writer: Anna Biller
Stars: Jonah Hauer-King, Ben Radcliffe, Bella Heathcote

Unrelated but: A24 is developing a film adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death", which will be a "wildly revisionist and darkly comedic take" on the classic story. Initially set to star Sydney Sweeney, the lead role has been replaced by Mikey (Anora) Madison due to scheduling conflicts. Charlie Polinger will write and direct the film, which reportedly centers on twin sisters from the lower class infiltrating a wealthy prince's castle to party while a plague rages outside.

I think I kicked Love Witch in an early review. I have since rewatched a few times with more appreciation.
There are interviews out there regarding Love Witch, but one on Donkey Skin better gets into her sensibility.

Donkey Skin is one of my favorite films of all time. I was happy to hear that Biller drew inspiration from it, having seen this video a few months ago. Picnic at Hanging Rock is another favorite. But as far as movies like Donkey Skin that have a kind of heightened artifice, I also really like Cemetery Man and Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural.
