The Future of TLO

I will stay here; it's a nice place. I feel comfortable, and I want to share some thoughts on Ligotti's stories and the influence they’ve had on me. I'm a writer as well, but I work within the Cthulhu Mythos and in Spanish. I have a concept called “Uterus Mundi,” based on my dreams of a dark womb with gloomy streets… Where can I share these kinds of thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

If you wish to share writings, there is a section of the site dedicated to that for forum members. Simply choose the appropriate forum directory from the link below. The formatting of this content is also more appropriate for such content.

Is that area for signed-in members only?
Meaning, the area is not visible to the outside world, nor would anything posted there be considered "published".

I primarily lurk and believe my have had prior accounts I have forgotten about but I always find myself back here if only to lurk even though I belong to those facebook and reddit groups as well this is my first and favorite place for ligotti.

I do not believe you should make a secondary forum, but you should sequester all creative efforts to "members only".
Works (stories, poems, artwork, plays, etc ...) that are visible to the outside world are considered published.
Any publisher down the line would be picking up secondary rights for something already published.
Or they may not even consider your work at all.
You could build a chamber at TLO where members could share their works with fellow members.
Not all may place efforts in there. For example, me, I couldn't are less about my perky film reviews.
They are on my website, as well as open forums and closed forums.
My essays, however, those are different and are on a subscription.
This is much discussed at various sites, but a short answer =
I welcome all works here, but I would not want our open door policy to potentially harm aspiring or fledgling artists.

It seems that I resurrected a ghost town of sorts. Any ideas on how to boost membership and activity?

I'm trying! But (almost) nobody ever does what I tell them to do...

I'm sort of late to the game, having joined in early 2022 in the hope that it might replace my writing group that I had just left because I had outgrown it.

I am relatively new to Ligotti’s works, and so far I don't have any deeper insight which I might share with the others, only admiration for the works I know and excitement for the ones which I'm not familiar with yet. So far I've just kept exploring different old discussions here. When it comes to getting new members, I don't have a clue where to find them, but for me getting to this place was relatively easy, so I hope that anyone interested will also fina a way.

I wonder if not having new forum activity immediately foregrounded on the front page in a collective way might have a negative effect. On the former site, one of the first things I saw was the feed (if that's the right term) of recent member posts in a single frame. Now I have to scan down the list of all subforums to check on which has new activity. It's a subtle but real different in both interface and psychology, and maybe one that's not quite as inviting or as encouraging to a sense of collective community, or at least to one that immediately presents itself as such upon opening the main page.

There is an option that lets you view new and newly updated discussions. Select “New posts” under the “Home” button in the top left corner.
Yes, this is the manner by which I too find the newest posts.

I believe that what Matt is suggesting is that new posts could be displayed on the home page. Hell, I'd take it a step further and suggest that all recent posts -newest at top of page- be displayed on the home page. That way, any old members revisiting the site could immediately see the recent activity that's taken place, without having to search for it.

How does it look now? Should I condense the format to minimize the space occupied?
I can also place it as a sidebar as opposed to a main bock.

It looks good to me. If I had my way it would be the whole 1st page working in reverse chronological order. It would be great if it had 2 sections unread and read. In the old system, I remember reading a recent post and being unable to refind it after it went into the appropriate forum because I was unsure of which forum that was.

This could be only the 1st page, with priority going to unread if it is too cumbersome to have it run multiple pages.

Switched it to unread posts for a quick review. I could place unread, recent and watched blocks on the opening page prior to the forum list. These are all easily accessible otherwise, but if members want an instant recap on the home page, then I think I can make it happen. Each of these can also be condensed to sidebar recaps, alternatively.
