Ligeia is Poe at his best, and it is a story open to supernatural and psychological interpretations. There had been efforts from well meaning and highly idealistics scholars to portray the world vision implied in the story as a quest for absolute beauty. However it seems, after a non biased reading, that the world of Ligeia is one of purposeless annihilation, where the only way of surviving is preying on innocents (Lady Rowena). Therefore the beautiful otherworldly Lady Ligeia has become the conqueror worm of her own poem. Her death has achieved what she hated more, and now she will not die but she will not love either. I reckon this interpretation is close to TL spirit.
 
Thank you Paeng! From what i've read it is based on the story but as you 've already said it's not the story. Do you know when it will be out?
 
However far it drifts from Poe's story, it almost certainly won't be the 'Poe' film least like its supposed original. My nomination for that title would go to The Oblong Box (1969). Both Poe's story and film contain an oblong box, and in both cases the box is a coffin, and there the similarity ends (apart from both film and book having human protagonists, I suppose). :confused:

I haven't watched it and i 'm a bit confused with all the videos on YouTube :confused:
 
Yes -- that's Roger Corman's film of Ligeia (1964). It departs somewhat from Poe's story, but is a good film, well worth seeing in my opinion. (And it's certainly closer to Poe's story than are some so-called Poe adaptations.) Excellent cinematography, and full of brooding Gothic menace. I own a copy of the DVD -- it's available for less than a fiver on British Amazon:
