The Most Outrageous Nonsense

The above quote is one of my favorites. Each time I read it I'm struck by how profound it is. I'm left dizzy, doubting all my surroundings and myself.
 
What of a nonsensory apparatus?

The "scribble" element of this story is rather intriguing, as usually a scribble is deliberate nonsense. And in the end, it all leads back to a pattern. The whole story reads like a recurring dream, not unlike "The Greater Festival of Masks" but more lucid.
 
The Clown Puppet is probably one of my favorite Ligotti stories. The horror and dread in it is very subtle and it leads to a breathtaking climax.
