Description: An adaption of H.P. Lovecraft's original and terrifying short story. A young university student, Daniel Forthright, on leave from the university decides to seek shelter for the night in an old dreary inn located deep in the forest. A freak storm forces Daniel to prolong his stay in the shadowy inn and each night he hears the eerie, nocturnal playing of the elusive and mysterious Erich Zann from the upstairs chamber. Daniel decides to make the old man's acquaintance and soon gains the impression that Zann is stark, raving mad but still Zann's music holds an odd fascination over him and he decides to delve deeper into the mystery of Erich Zann's music. Daniel soon discovers the horrifying reason behind Zann's music and the powers it holds over the unseen creatures waiting outside Zann's curtained window!

I enjoyed it, and wish talented reverential filmmakers such as these had been tasked with bringing Lovecraft to the big screen, rather than those wishing to make campy tongue-in-cheek B movies.

I do admit though that I did find it a bit odd that the impenetrable darkness of the now candleless room at the end was... highly penetrable.

Just got a chance to sit down and watch this. I very much enjoyed it. Thank you! It seems that the shorter films or, what to my idiosyncratic mind I call "classic like" films such as the silent Call of Cthulu or black and white Colour Out of Space, seem to nail the spirit of Lovecraft (think Mark Samuels put up a short that came out of New Zealand or Australia that had a very Lovecraftian feel as well). I love what independent film makers are doing with Lovecraft's work cinematically and as I've given up on Del Toro ever doing At the Mountains of Madness this is my fix of this particular drug.
