Regarding opera, my all-time favorite is Strauss' Salome. No other opera achieves anything like the macabre and ghoulish splendor of the final aria of Salome, in which the titular heroine, being presented with the decapitated head of John the Baptist, for whom she has a creepy erotic obsession, serenades said decapitated head with the most morbid, decadent, and exquisite aria in all of opera.

- Leszek (Lech) Jankowski just might be the greatest underappreciated composer working today; his scores for the films of the Quay Brothers stand as masterpieces in their own right. |
