This is my favourite cover of all-time:
It's actually quite a maligned recording as it's from late in Elvis' career, and he couldn't hit the notes he previously could. For me that's why it's so hauntingly beautiful. It's a song about yearning, and you can feel Elvis pining for his old voice as he sings it. It moves me to tears. He sounds like a man struggling defiantly against the tide of despair. |

I chose this because I was at the show. Later in the night the place was in chaos. There were running fights with security, cops dragging out some big bad street fightin' man with his teeth sunk into the cop's forearm up to the gums, cop screamin', beatin' him with a baton...just crazy. Don't get me wrong, I don't condone that behavior, but there was a spell put on the crowd that night. Mayhem, just mayhem.

He kept making references to "bust up this joint" or "let's tear it down" lol, so I guess the audience complied. What a crowd of crazy drunks...
