Weird Board Games, Toys, etc.
Hi everyone
Saw a thread for horror video games and we definitely have a ton on books and movies. But didn't see a specific thread for weird board games, toys, etc. With board games I am entirely a novice here. Been kinda wanting to get into it but never really have been into them till now (no D&D even). So kinda wanting feedback and rec's on what others have found that they liked. Really eyeing the Lovecraftian board games out there like this one But with a price tag that high don't want to invest in something I'll hate. And also, my favorite thing right now is plush Cthulhu Think on their website you could get their 6 foot tall Cthulhu but they may have stopped that special. What have all of you found??? |

A great idea for a thread, Michael! I will ponder the idea of weird board games, probably there are some quite old ones that fit the bill.
Edit: It's worth noting that Ouija Boards have been sold for years as "games." I have experienced much joy from my plush Cthulhu as well! Though I have the green one instead of the red. |

Can't stand the plush toy thing, what's the appeal?

Anyway, this one that was recently (un)successfully kickstarted (work on it is still going on though) looks like it might be relevant to TLO's interests. |

$300 dollars for a board game...Cthulhu must be making mad money.
A strange board game I heard alot about: Advanced Discrimination & Dragons http://www.metalsucks.net/wp-content...aying-game.jpg It has complicated rules, no guidance whatsoever, and is very racist. None, really. It was given to me as a joke. That is probably how it is for most I imagine. |

Strangely enough, there is a Gormenghast board game:

This game looks interesting. However the web site states that all characters play Steerpike, which I found odd. I'm more of a Sepulchrave, Dr. Prunesquallor or even Mr. Flay type myself. In this board game each player takes on the role of a ‘kitchen rat’ similar to Steerpike in the books. Like Steerpike you have the same murderous desire for power. Your goal is to accumulate as much influence as you can (in the form of Victory Tokens), and eventually rise to the top and become Master of Ritual. |

I was playing AD&D when I was in elementary school. My friends were four years older than me. I still have my basic set from 1979. There were not many supplements available back then. Before that we played Micro games like Melee, Ogre, and Sticks and Stones. I had quit playing by the ninth grade, but some friends in college talked me into playing again briefly. By then we mostly got drunk and played for a couple of days until we collapsed. It was fun.
I haven't gamed since then. I did pick up a rpg game in the last five years on eBay called Pain Doctors. This was just out of curiosity. Dr. Bantham and I used to get into bidding wars back in the day over stuff like this and early Ligotti material. |
