Among the people I was around (who were, like, a bunch of eight year olds who parroted opinions from their music-obsessed older brothers), Pearl Jam was given a pass while Bush and Stone Temple Pilots were the great authenticity criminals. The phrase "corporate band" got thrown around a lot, as did "selling out." This was probably my first exposure to any kind of (pseudo)critical thinking about art; of course it was total blind orthodoxy but seemed massively important.

(Rage Against the Machine were also taken REALLY REALLY seriously, as if they were personally fighting guerilla wars all over the planet instead of touring the richest country on Earth on Sony's tab. I can remember being at my friend's house one time and trying to think of something to say to my friend's older brother; after about 15 minutes' deliberation I managed to come up with:
"RATM seem really angry."
My friend's older brother looked at me indignantly and said "Well, they have a RIGHT to be!")

I can't recall many bands I loathe that I remember, as I tend to jump from songs I hate immediately.

I would say Kpop bands though, because the garish clothes and static (similar) singing voices.

(I'm surprised someone says they dislike Tool here :D Most people I know gush over it. )

Tool and Pink Floyd. Metaphysical, spiritual, pretentious, awful. Prog-Rock in general.

I don't know about Tool but Pink Floyd aren't very representative of prog, they were very much on the fringes of the genre and didn't do all the hard contrasts and sudden changes. But I suppose there are lots of prog bands that meander more softly.

I genuinely like Stone Roses and I think Oasis made one or two good tracks but the whole thing that grew around them is horrible.
This is a treasure trove of bad haircuts and low musical ambition...

Listen to the end of every bar. He lifts his hands off the strings and strikes open strings. That is not a chord. It's a common "party style" affectation with self-taught guitarists who have not been shown what they are doing incorrectly - Imagine if every sentence Ligotti completed finished with a preposition. There is very little technical ability in what Kurt does. Technical ability does not equate to success or good music though, otherwise I doubt Milly Cyrus would be on the charts.

What he did definitely worked for that style of music but a skilled guitarist he was not. Guitarists who sing are also more likely to not be as good on the guitar due to divided attention, which is very natural.

This is very interesting Symbolique. Is Jandek a good guitarist?

I loathe christmas carols. i get irritable when I hear them and want to leave whatever place is playing them. it is only a problem from October-December. if i am going someplace that I know will be playing them (basically any kind of store), i bring headphones and my own music when feasible to shop comfortably or just grit my teeth and shop fast.

is there a specific band that people play when they have their car stereos turned up loud enough to rattle all the windows within a block of their vehicle? It always sounds the same from where i sit. it always gives me a headache. the people who do it outside my workplace seem to prefer rap music, but i suspect any sort of music would be equally unpleasant at that volume, except perhaps a couple things from the attack on titan soundtrack.

I loathe Jack White. I mean, he is a great musician, but I cannot stand him at all.

I think he's made some great songs but too much of his work is too samey and some more recent songs sound like intentional self-parody.
