This was taken with a cell phone, so the quality's not great and it fails to capture the elegance of the actual book, but it gives an idea of its size as compared to an ordinary hardcover, and may be of interest until someone who owns the book and a better camera can bring the two together:

I can take another shot from a different angle if anyone wants.

Wow! You got a loaf of bread with your copy?
Extremely jealous:p

Nah, the loaf of bread came with the Stephen King book. ;)

I see the new Passport Levant novella by Reggie Oliver, The Wounds of Exile, is only to be published in 100 copies. This could be the rarest Oliver book of all to date.

Ex Occidente Press - The Wounds of Exile

I also think it's a little odd that this new book is supposed to burst out before Virtue in Danger (which has been listed on Ex Occidente's site forever), but more Oliver is never anything to complain about. The setting looks fairly exotic even for Oliver, but he'll probably pull it off well, based on the excellent historical fiction component seen in his previous work.

His progress is amazing, in my opinion. R.O.'s stories just keep getting better, and that's quite an accomplishment when he set the quality standard high from the beginning.

Yes, I'm looking forward to receiving THE WOUNDS OF EXILE.

Also, please note - there is a new RO story in NULL IMMORTALIS.

Re: Reggie Oliver

Thinking about The Wounds of Exile and upcoming Dracula Papers (Volume I of III?), the realization that Reggie Oliver may be turning into a novelist struck me. It's true that he's had some further stand alone short stories published in anthologies within the last year (Null Immortalis, Strange Tales III, etc). However, this is the first time in awhile that there's no new Oliver short story collection on the horizon.

Does anyone else think he may be venturing away from short stories for the foreseeable future? I'm not that worried about it if this is the case because The Wounds of Exile was a fine read--albeit a bit different from his previous tales. Even with excellent novels, I think part of me will miss new short story collections, but maybe I'm jumping the gun since Oliver may be working to find a balance between short story and novel output, rather than focusing on one form over the other.

Volume I of IV.

I'm lucky enough to be able to look forward to some of the previously published Oliver short stories that I have not read yet, but I'm also looking forward to volume II of TDP.

Four volumes of The Dracula Papers! How lovely!

As for short story collections, is it just wishful thinking, or have I heard a rumour that Tartarus will be releasing a volume of Reggie Oliver stories some time in the near future?

Re: Reggie Oliver

According to Ray Russell, Tartarus is due to publish a new Oliver collection late next year, with a probable launch at FantasyCon 2011 (30 September - 2 October).
