THOMAS LIGOTTI ONLINE - Eleventh Anniversary

On February 4th, 1997, Jon Padgett unleashed a horrific vision upon this world. THOMAS LIGOTTI ONLINE was created to champion the greatest living horror/weird fiction writer. Many thanks must be extended to Jon for his initiative and effort to bring the Ligottian world to those receptive - yet hidden within the mindless masses. He has undoubtedly introduced countless readers to Tom's work and hand laid the foundations for the community herein. A tip of the surgeon's cap to you, Jon!

I tip my hat to Jon Padgett as well. Eleven years. That's a long, long time. Beyond Thomas Ligotti, many friendships have developed. Thank you.

I have enjoyed the site more than I can say. Thanks to Jon and Brian and Tom and to all those members who have participated in making TLO an interesting place to visit.

Membership at Thomas Ligotti Online has profoundly transformed my life in a way which is difficult to express in an adequate manner. Many thanks are due to Dr. Locrian, Dr. Bantham, and Mr. Ligotti himself. Long live TLO!

Many thanks to all those concerned. My life would have been decidedly bereft if I had not discovered TLO. Thanks, too, for giving me a folder in the Repository and putting up with some of my peculiar ways.

Without you, the black stars within me would not be as soft. The pain of their wriggling may be too much to bear.

The Black Ferris stated it very nicely. This is an enjoyable website with great members and it is strangely soothing to belong. Keep up the good work!

Am I too late to the party to add my own support these many months later? Sorry, I've been mostly out of touch for awhile. But I was around and involved in the late 90s when Jon created TLO. In fact, as I've mentioned before, it was in part my own newbie uber-enthusiasm for Tom's work that led Jon, a longtime Ligotti enthusiast, to execute his long-held Special Plan of creating a Ligotti Website soon after he and I met through the newsgroup alt.horror.cthulhu and began discovering a positively spooky number of synchronicities between our respective lives and personalities. (Of course, first came the much-beloved alt.books.thomas-ligotti, also created by Jon, which served for a year or two as a kind of preparatory exercise for the full Web presence.)

So the launch of TLO corresponded both chronologically and thematically with my own launch into Ligotti-dom. This being the case, the site has always felt like a second home to me.

It's amazing to see what the place has become in the masterful hands of first Jon and now you, Brian.

Like Matt, I'm shamefully late in adding my two-cents to this thread.

I too was skulking around TLO at the very beginning. It was pleasing to see that I was not alone in my rabid appreciation of Thomas Ligotti's peerless work.

This site has played an important role in my life. One of my earlier tales ("Reflections from the Abyss") was first published here, and it was through TLO that I was put in touch with the author himself. That initial exchange, in which I expressed to Tom my enthusiasm for his fiction, has evolved into the most enduring, thought-provoking and enriching correspondences of my life. To be able to discuss philosophy, art, horror and other myraid topics with Thomas Ligotti is a genuine privilege.

Here's to another eleven years.

Best,
Richard Gavin

Yikes! I must say, this makes me feel too old. I remember alternating between here and Art of Grimscribe, desperate for any news about the man and his work. The knowledge dropped here on a daily basis continues to amaze, as does the fact that The Writer is one of a select few authors of modern weird who can sustain, let alone deserve, such a rabid fan base. I'm not here as often as I'd like, but whenever I am I like to peruse the shelves, as it were, and spend an afternoon taking in all that I'm missed in the intervening time.

Kudos to all who have made this place thus, to those who have come before, and those who are soon to come.
