To Whom It May Concern
I intend this thread to be for personal announcements... Anyone and everyone -- please feel free to use it. :drunk:
My announcement (apart from the above) is that I've just added an extra album to my profile -- stuffed with a dozen photos taken today. |
Re: To Whom It May Concern
I like the new pictures Odalisque!! Thanks for sharing your fun side with us. It is always interesting to see the faces of our members.
|
Re: To Whom It May Concern
Four more pictures added to my Laptop Pictures album. They're of soft toys. :D
|
Re: To Whom It May Concern
I put two pics in my new album. Just to put a face to the name...
|
Re: To Whom It May Concern
I don't know what I was expecting but for some reason Jezetha I did not picture you as looking like that. You are younger than I thought!!! Thanks for sharing your pics with us!!!

Re: To Whom It May Concern
I look younger, Candy... ;)
|
Re: To Whom It May Concern
Candy's right -- you do look younger than I'd have expected my favourite Dutch uncle to be.

Re: To Whom It May Concern
I don't know whether any others of you do this, but I keep certain vegetables in the fridge (such as lettuce and celery) standing in a little water. It helps to preserve them -- a bit like putting flowers in water. Mugs that have lost their handles are better for this purpose (vegetable vases) than ones that still have their handles -- they use less fridge space. One of the handleless cups was (when new) a gift from a now-dead friend. This particular mug had also lost a V-shape chunk from its rim, it would probably have been binned long ago, but for its assocaition with a dead friend. But last night, washing the dishes, I cut my hand on the sharp V-shaped bite from the rim. Belatedly, I viewed the object as a hazard, and binned it. This has left me wondering about the things I keep and the things I throw away. :(

Re: To Whom It May Concern
Odalisque I hope the cut was not a bad one!!! My mom cut her finger washing a glass and had to have stitches put it:eek: I tend to keep too much and my husband is constantly throwing stuff away on me!!!!

Re: To Whom It May Concern
I hate it when I accumulate things I do not use, so, on a regular basis, I get rid of them. I give them to my mum (who gives them to associations for poor people-even if i wouldn't be too sure about that-) or i sell them at flea markets, which is fun when you make a stand with friends. It's funny to see people's reactions to some objects! The only "objects" i keep collecting is books, i do not even collect records any longer. I do not like things when they are not useful and I don't feel any bond to them.

Re: To Whom It May Concern
collections >books and art stuff mainly with dedications by friends...for the rest i'm with Steve Dakorte, i just need a pc...at least on a personal collection level, i'm not talking about other delights...

Re: To Whom It May Concern
I painted a pack of tarot cards in the 70s. Today, I scanned the first of them (the suit of cups) at work. I've downloaded the scans into an album. :)

Re: To Whom It May Concern
Beautiful work, Pet!
|
Re: To Whom It May Concern
I vividly remember first seeing Odalisque's amazing cards in the flesh.
|
Re: To Whom It May Concern
That's awesome. Thanks for sharing these scans!

Ewww. He made his cards out of flesh? Seriously, thats pretty cool. I once dreamt I found a pack of Tarots in a rummage sale. They were quite old, and had several extra trumps and suits. I can vividly recall these: The Reflection, the Bonefire, and the Ace of Marvels. Too bad my artistic skills are as limited as my linguistic ones...Kevin or Pet, I give you permission to telepathically download and paint these, if you wish. -Jimmy |
Re: To Whom It May Concern
Thank you for your kind comments. If I can get away with putting the scanner at work to more unauthorised use ;), I'll post more of the cards.
|
Re: To Whom It May Concern
After gross misappropriation of my working hours today, :D I believe that the entire pack of 78 cards is now posted to the TLO. Enjoy! :drunk:

These cards are truly magnificent. Everyone should view them on your album. I remember you doing these in the seventies. des |
Re: To Whom It May Concern
I've mislaid my computer glasses. They have now been missing for several hours. No more activity on this site from me until they turn up. :(

Re: To Whom It May Concern
In a moment of abstraction, I'd put them in a cardboard box just outside the bathroom. They took hours to find! :drunk:

Re: To Whom It May Concern
As a little celebration of the festive season, here are three of Em's twelve pains of Christmas, plus the first Em cartoon I ever saw.
http://www.ligotti.net/picture.php?a...pictureid=1002 I think that Em is a Swedish woman living in London. Her cartoons appear in the free evening paper The London Paper, and can also be seen on her web site http://www.emcartoons.com/ |
Re: To Whom It May Concern
I have just started a new album entitled "Beachcombing time's Plutonian shore". All but the first word is a quotation from memory (probably a misquotation) from Poe's 'The Raven'. The album's for fragments from my personal past. Here is one of the first two, my ration book for 1953-54. Since the book remains with me, I assume that was the last year of food rationing in Britain. The book clearly saw some use, so rationing must have ended part way through that year.
http://www.ligotti.net/picture.php?a...pictureid=1005 It's a reminder, I suppose, that I come from another world. The Ministry of Food ration book is at a great remove from the conspicuous consumption of recent years. Of course, things will continue to change -- and not necessarily in the directions that many people expect. (Not that I truly know what other people expect... I'm not even sure what I expect.) |
Re: To Whom It May Concern
I have now added my identity card (from the post-war years) to the "Beachcombing time's Plutonian shore" album. There are two scans, the interior and exterior of the card, this is the latter.
http://www.ligotti.net/picture.php?a...pictureid=1011 The fountain pen handwriting of officials seen in the interior clearly belongs to another age. Not only no biometric data in those days (not that I know what biometric data is) but no photograph. I believe that this applied to adult cards as well as this under sixteen one. The card would have expired in 1962, had identity cards not been abolished long before. Now the government want to bring identity cards back... sort of, anyway... what the government people have in mind is nothing like this card. Oh -- and the card really is made of card! |
Re: To Whom It May Concern
I have just downloaded another 16 pictures to my albums. Five of them are of my halloween diorama (giving a much better idea of it than the previously posted pictures). The other eleven are of this year's Nativity. Here's a sample of the latter:

Re: To Whom It May Concern
Just to let people know that I have labyrinthitis:
:drunk: I've been to the doctor and have some pills, but my head is still spinning, and I can't cope with the kind of posts one finds on the TLO! I should be back soon. :) |
Re: To Whom It May Concern
I hope that all turns out well, Pet. Take care!
|
Re: To Whom It May Concern
Get well soon, Pet.
|
Re: To Whom It May Concern
Thanks!
The pills are helping a lot, but I still have a bit of a way to go. |

Re: To Whom It May Concern
My second attack was the worst. I was in the bathroom, unable to stand. Mostly, I just lay down as the ceiling spun above me. Every once in a while, I rose to my knees to be sick. Perhaps the worst thing was not knowing whether it would pass -- I wondered whether I'd pass the rest of my life in that condition.
|
Re: To Whom It May Concern
Well, that's worrying. Perhaps you should go back to the doctor. Get well soon.des
