Re: Ex Occidente Press
I have had The Man Who Collected Machen on order since early last year. I hope it arrives safely - things aren't going great at the moment. I don't want to kill anyone's enjoyment but the new cover is really drab compaired to the old one.
I wonder if THE MASTER IN CAFÉ MORPHINE is going to follow suite. Many of the stories in Cinnabar's Gnosis were highly enjoyable in there own right so I may go for Buglakov volume as well. |

Re: Ex Occidente Press
The new Mark Samuels cover appears to be the one that was going to be used for The Light of the World by Peter Bell, which unfortunately, is no longer forthcoming. I would have preferred to see the old cover art used, but the most important thing is that the book is finally almost here. The Master in Cafe Morphine shouldn't be too far behind.

Re: Ex Occidente Press
Yes, that was uncharitable of me, I apologise. As a whole I like the new Ex Occidente house design. I'm very much looking forward to The Man Who Collected Machen.
There is a great quote from The Age of Decayed Futurity: I think goes something like this; "The past is a mere echo of the future projected back through time and controlled by the dead" |
Re: Ex Occidente Press
Hello to all.
And to those who will be in the The Master in Cafe Morphine... I hope you are all as excited as I am to see this project get off the ground. I'm sure it will be another fine looking book from Ex-Occidente. Bulgakov is a great writer so I'm happy to be in this homage. |

The Bulgakov book is sounding more exciting by the day. I look forward to reading Allyson's contribution, and Adam Cantwell's whose story in Cinnabar's Gnosis is very enjoyable. As for Ray's posting that it's a pleasure to be able to contribute to The Master in Cafe Morphine, it will be just as much a pleasure for me to read his story. I'm certain that this is going to be a very fine collection.

'I look forward to reading Allyson's contribution.'
Thank you! It is called The Black Swan of Odessa and it was a great pleasure to write. I adore Bulgakov and in my opinion he is indeed one of the greats. I looked no further than The Master and Margarita for evidence of that :>). |
Re: Ex Occidente Press
Hmm may as well as this again: does anyone know if there actually is an Ex Occidente mailing list and if so how one gets on it?
I did speak to the Ex Occidente webmaster about this but he wasn't sure... |
Re: Ex Occidente Press
The Man Who Collected Machen arrived in Copenhagen yesterday. The book looks very nice, although there has been a change of printer. There is a nice gold folio on the front, and although it is a slim volume, it has been given the full treatment with dust jacket and silk ribbon.
There is a pleasant surprise at the end. I've only read the title story, being immersed in a thesis on Machen (last before my Master's degree), and it was brilliant. The only story to have bee published before is 'The Age of Decayed Futurity' from Cinnabar's Gnosis. Next up should be the Seignolle book, after that Berguno and Howard. The Bulgakov tribute is slightly delayed due to what sounds like a very extravagant packaging. I've heard that more activity is to be expected in the near future. A bad thing is that the print runs will probably not exceed 200 copies in the future. |
