"The Bungalow House" Reading by Jon Padgett

Jon Padgett has performed his best reading to date for "The Bungalow House" by Thomas Ligotti. This is a wonderful interpretation and an absolute masterpiece in it's own right. Gracious thanks to Jon for putting forth the tremendous effort for the reading and sharing his talent with us. Naturally, the quality of the subject material goes without saying!

SPOILER ALERT
This is a complete audio reading of the entire story. If you have yet to read the story in print, be warned.

The story is available for streaming within Media or for direct download within Downloads.

This is simply a wonderful reading. I can't say enough good things about it. Thanks, Jonathan, for the enormous time, effort, and skill you put into the project. You've fairly well embodied the emotional essence of Tom's story in spoken form.

Wow, wonderful. A real must hear for every Ligotti fan. Jon, I encourage you to try to publish those readings! I wouldn't be surprised if one day in the future I were to find such audio books on the list of Ligotti collectibles!!!
Thanks for this stunning performance - it was really mesmerizing.

Brian, Matt, and Slawek:

I am simply touched by the kind words. Thanks so much, guys. I was lucky to have the advice and direction of TL himself (which was a good thing, since at one point I was going down the wrong path with the reading and the narrator's character). It seems appropriate that he led me to an understanding of the narrator's voice. Kudos, Matt.

So: special thanks to Tom, Matt, Brian, and Jimmy for their support throughout the process. (Brian: none of this could have happened without your superior mind and skill and dedication. You've simply inspired me to work harder and become more obsessed. Thank you.)

"The Bungalow House" is easily in my top three stories of all time (the ones that I can never choose between). Meaning: I was honored to be able to read it, and I feel fortunate that I had the means to do it justice.

Wasn't Matt's musical contribution perfect for the story? It's kind of funny how, by the time I selected and mixed the instrumental excerpts in, those haunting pieces seemed to immediately fit perfectly without any editorial effort on my part.

At any rate, the whole process was definitely a labor of love (ironically, given the subject matter). The last few weeks (as I've been working on it) have been remarkable. Again: I feel remarkably fortunate to have had this opportunity to give voice to one of my favorite works by my favorite author.

Man, it's really tacky how I'm rambling on about this. I'll shut up now and let others do the writing. Thanks again, everyone.

Jon Padgett has a remarkably strong talent. His gentle, powerful voice is sheer skill. Sooner than later we'll be buying an audiobook with "Read by Jon Padgett" on it.

I'm extremely proud of you, Jon. I cannot even imagine the hard work you've put into this performance. Absolutely stunning performance!

Slawek is correct: this reading will become a Thomas Ligotti's collector's item indeed!

Matt Cardin, I applaud you as well. Your music is like a gentle rainfall to the back of my eyes.

Bravo! Bravo! Bravo I say! Thank you for creating this masterpiece for us TLO members to enjoy.

I am going to shamelessly "bump" this post to the top of recent topics. Everyone must give a listen to this reading, and I fear the recent hacking escapade has diminished the prominence of the original announcement. If you have not yet listened to this via the Media or Downloads section, go there now.

I shall listen to this, but I can hardly imagine it will in any way compare to Jon's reading.

This is a great reading, Jon Padgett's voice works perfectly. I love that you guys have so many weird fiction audio readings here, it was real incentive to join the forums.

Re: "The Bungalow House" Reading by Jon Padgett

I've enjoyed Jon's reading for years, and still return to it from time to time. This is how Ligotti tales should sound. I sincerely hope that Jon or someone equally qualified will put their voices to more stories one day, if the opportunity should arise.

I know the rights involving audio adaptations of Tom's work are probably more complex than I could guess. But I hope a CD or downloadable set of tales given voice won't be out of the question someday.
