I think you were welcomed by a robot. The "why?" question doesn't seem to apply. Of course, there is a kind of "meta-why?" question -- why a robot has been put in place to welcome new members. The "why?" question seems to be personal (to you), the "meta-why?" question is an impersonal one about why this site functions as it does.
The robot is a fairly recent introduction. It wasn't in place to welcome me. I'm not sure whether, had it welcomed me, that would have added to my happiness. I doubt whether it would. |
