My 10 copies of "Tuerqui" arrived today. I took some pictures of a copy in my hand, but -- when I tried to download them to this site -- I received this error message.

These books, I can vouch (having witnessed the process of PFJ writing them over twenty plus years), are something special. Glad to see so far a vision of them here in their first print stasis.

I have now passed the half way point in writing "Margaret Again" (the third novel [of 4] expanding what was once the novel "Odalisque"). I hope to publish "Margaret Again" during the summer. (June???)

"Odalisque" contained a lot of elided dialogue, now removed in re-writing. But something resembling the ghost of elided dialogue is seen in this new exchange from "Margaret Again" Chapter 12:

Eric Marsh greeted us: “Ah, your highness, and err… friends.”

“Yes, we’re her friends,” Lisa-Louise said, dropping her h.

With my books being print on demand, I wonder whether that means they'll be printed in the country where the purchaser lives. (In the USA for American purchasers.) If so, it should be possible to buy copies in America no matter how long the volcanic ash lingers in the air.

I've had rather a wonderful day working on "Margaret Again" Chapter 13.

The chapter had its origins in part of an "Odalisque" chapter. Only the "Odalisque" chapter combined two elements which seemed to me not to belong together. So, broke the "Odalisque" chapter in two, of which "Margaret Again" Ch 13 was smaller half. (Less than a third, in fact.) Chapter 13 started (in fact) as a fragment of just over 5 pages, and I wanted to beef it up to about 24 (the possibility of which I doubted it). Over the last couple of days, I've added to Ch 13 and had (as of yesterday) worked it up to 8 or 9 pages (a bit of which I thought might be no more than padding). Today I hoped to have it up to at least 12 pages -- but that looked as though it would be a struggle. (And where, I wondered, would the other dozen pages come from?) In the event, I was on a roll, and breezed through the chapter today. Far from inserting padding, I found myself addressing several important matters. And (to my surprise) the chapter ended up longer than I wanted -- so I removed the passage about which I was doubtful. Then the chapter was about the length I desired. After that, I feel on a high. Of course, I'll have to go through the chapter carefully, but I'm confident that it is now (essentially) what I want it to be. Yay!! :)

A writer saying 'Yay!' after a day of writing is a moment truly to cherished. There's nothing else like it in life.

Recently, I was about to make a character speak of avoiding something like the plague. But that seemed too much of a cliché, so I made it pox instead of plague. On reflection this seemed insufficient, so I changed it to the penny brothel pox. Sounds Like something well worth avoiding!

Not part of The Warriors of Love, but written by me, my copies of Golden Goddess and Bloody Times arrived yesterday. It's short (68 pages), includes pictures and (I think) is looking good. I am mindful that Alice's Adventures in Wonderland begins with this paragraph:

Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do: once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, "and what is the use of a book," thought Alice, "without pictures or conversations?"

It seems to me that Alice had a good point. I ensure that The Warriors of Love novels have plenty of conversations, and Golden Goddess has pictures.

I picked that cover for my new avatar because it's the darkest of them (which seemed appropriate for this site). Perhaps because it's the darkest, it's the one that seems to display least well in small (avatar) size. Oh well...

Emails from Lulu today: I forgot to put ISBNs on my copyright pages. So I need to add them. So there will be delay to my books being available on Amazon etc. They'll probably be available on Amazon in July now (or so I think). They are still directly available from Lulu (I think).

I have just created a much prettier version of my novel "Jane" on Lulu. Now, I need to see it in the ink and paper...

The new version has the following additions:

• Tuerqui's Treasure Books as the name of the publisher
• A re-vamped copyright page, including "by the same writer" details, and the ISBN (the latter was the spark that led to the changes)
• A page header
• Page numbering
• Two new brief passages of dialogue that result in no pages with only two lines of text.

I have now created, on Lulu, new versions of "Tuerqui" and "Golden Goddess and Bloody Times". The former has a little extra text, the latter extra pictures. Now, I need to wait until my copies arrive, check that they're good, and then approve them for release on Amazon (etc.)

The whole business is coming along... or so I hope.

"Jane" and "Margaret" are now approved for distribution. I'm waiting for the latest proof copy of "Tuerqui" before approving that, too. The copy of "Tuerqui" has been despatched, I gather, and may arrive tomorrow.

I completed work on "Margaret Again" Chapter 17 today. Only three more chapters to go, and the novel will be complete.

Today, I polished "Margaret Again" Chapter 19, leaving me only more chapter to go.

I'm surprised by how quickly I've written "Margaret Again". I started on March 1st, and should (the goddess willing) be finished within the next week.

That rate of writing is a bit less speedy than it may appear, though. About 2/3 of the text is a revision of around 40% (19 of 50 chapters) of my former novel "Odalisque". The plot is unchanged, the major characters are the same. There is a lot of new material, though, about 1/3 of the text is newly devised: new incidents, extra dialogue, etc. And the old material has been thoroughly spruced up. So it has been a lot of work to accomplish in less than three months.

The skeleton was already in place, and super model amounts of flesh. I've beefed her up to healthy human proportions, and clothed her in a new frock.

I anticipate my 12 novel project slowing down after this. Next, I intend to write what will be volume 11 "Tuerqui Again". This will be based on the final half dozen chapters of "Odalisque", but will be mostly original composition.

After that, I intend to write volumes 4, 7, 3, 6, 9, 10 and 12 in that order. I have my reasons for that. All of those volumes will be 100% new composition and (I expect) will take longer to write.

I'm looking forward to going back to original composition, rather than rehashing old material.

I've just completed a preliminary read through of the last chapter of "Margaret Again". Maybe 4 or 5 hours of polishing work (tomorrow, the goddess willing) will see the book complete.

Today, I've made a small start on writing "Tuerqui Again". My main problem, at the moment, is deciding how much synopsis material I should include. This arises from my re-writing my former novel "Odalisque" as four novels in the "Warriors of Love" series. "Tuerqui Again" will be the fourth of those, so there is plenty to recap of the story of Margaret/Tuerqui. In fact, the text of the three previous volumes developed from "Odalisque" runs to 1,444 printed pages. If "Tuerqui Again" is to stand as an independent novel, some of that material will have to be covered again. On the other hand, I don't want to burden the book with more synopsis material than is entirely necessary.

Having given the matter some thought, I think that I know (roughly) where I want to go with "Tuerqui Again". The second half (or so) of the book is to be set after the end of "Odalisque". I think that it may take us into stranger territory than any of my previous fiction... developments I'm only just beginning to foresee.

Today, I realised that I started work on "Margaret" on 21st July 2009. Since then, in less than a year, I've written the whole of three novels that thoroughly revise and greatly expand upon "Odalisque". And I've started on the fourth and final one. Crumbs!

I've corrected a typo "ensure" for "ensue" on page 96.

I've also changed the cover. It was:

There will probably never be more than two copies of "Margaret Again" with the original cover. If the book ever becomes celebrated, I suppose that those two proof copies are likely to change hands for quite a lot of money.
