Re: Your favourite song at the moment..
Even though I hated the first season of True Detective, the song Far From Any Road by The Handsome Family is awesome, as is the one from the second season, which I did not intend to watch:

The Bee Gees cover used for the Suicide Squad trailer reminded me of Ligotti.

I notice under this one, someone has written:
"I swear tomorrow I'm buyig this album." Well, if it will encourage others to do the same, I won't feel so bad about posting the song here: Apparently it's partly inspired by Ms Brontė. |

You never fail to deliver, Child. That Heaters album is wonderful.

Re: Your favourite song at the moment..
- Thank you kindly Cnev, I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it; Heaters for me are one of the rare groups representing a sub-sub-genre of contemporary garage/surf/psychedelic rock I've come to call 'Southwestern Gothic' that is melancholy, subtly eerie, and distinctly Autumnal in sound (and brings back memories of the empty spaces and unheimlich atmosphere I saw growing up in CA's High Desert). Other bands who've displayed this same sound include The Allah-Las, Beach Fossils, The Drums, Filthy Huns, The Fresh & Onlys, The Growlers, Johnny Hawaii, La Luz and Widowspeak; here's a couple of tracks I think serve as perfect examples:

Cross this (somehow) with 'Life on Mars?' and you might get something like the feeling that increasingly creeps over me when I read internet 'news':

I don't think my musical satisfaction ratio can equal that upon discovering that Morrissey covered this. Now, listen closely for this a song from the Underground.
(Yeh, yeh, controversies, shoggoths, BFS awards dead huskies, and all that rubbish: in short all that is sublime and lofty) |
