Worst Song of All Time?
I think this one is pretty hard to top:

Re: Worst Song of All Time?
in the 1990s, a survey was done of things that people hate most in music. The results were compiled and a single piece of music was made that included all of them.
There is an mp3 of this available. |

Apparently, the artists behind this project, Komar and Melamid, have also made a series of most wanted and least wanted paintings for different countries.
USA's least wanted: http://awp.diaart.org/km/usa/least.jpg Denmark's least wanted: http://awp.diaart.org/km/den/least.jpg Italy's least wanted: http://awp.diaart.org/km/ita/least.jpg |
Re: Worst Song of All Time?
Out of respect for the recently-departed Adam Yauch, I will refrain from mentioning the Beastie Boys. Oops.
I assume we're looking for songs that are more than just ordinarily inept, stupid, annoying, etc. -- songs that are somehow compelling and fascinating in their awfulness. Neil Diamond has touched this kind of greatness many times in his career. But I humbly submit that the following perfect song -- light as air and without a trace of self-awareness -- reaches a level of sublimity that Mr. Diamond with all his labored bathos can only dream about: |
Re: Worst Song of All Time?
For some reason I get a visceral reaction of nausea combined with rage when I hear this song. Maybe because it played on the radio every fifth song back in the 90's.

OR THIS: Your pal Rod really did you in, Mr. Brel. "Little Green Apples" was Hell, too. |

Funnily enough Low did a great cover of that.

Muskrat Love or We Built This City (On Rock n Roll). Your pick.

Re: Worst Song of All Time?
Unfortunately, I'm young enough to remember when a pop/screamo duo called Blood on the Dance Floor (derived from MJ's album) became a thing and the silly edgy boys and girls at my middle school thought they were the greatest thing since MP3s. Easily as horrifying as a Ligotti piece.
(Keep in mind these lyrics were tailored for teeny boppers.) |
