Górecki's Symphony of Sorrowful Songs is probably the saddest piece of music in the contemporary classical repertoire.

Life has had a way of irreversibly turning a lot of the feel-good songs from my childhood into melancholy shells of their former selves. Peter Broderick captures that feeling very well in this rendition. The way the melody sort of bleeds out into a mess of notes is the perfect trajectory for such a song.

- Very apt post; I've actually thought about putting 'Sunshine' up myself - as a child the song brought me to tears on more than one occasion, as "You'll never know dear, how much love you/So please don't take my sunshine away" has always sounded to me like the most desperate of pleas (possibly to a god over the fate of loved one) and truly deserving of belonging in the pantheon of most heartrending and plaintive song lyrics ever.

Drudkh is well-known among metal aficionados as a one-man Ukrainian black metal project. The album Songs of Grief and Solitude is unique in Drudkh's discography, since it eschews completely a black metal sound in favor of quiet, sad and contemplative neofolk tones. It's easily my favorite of Drudkh's albums. Whenever I want to ease myself into a state of serene melancholy, which is often, I listen to this very sad album.

After watching The End of Evangelion for the first time, I began to associate the lyrics of "Hey Jude" with suicide.

- Now you've got me craving a listen of "Komm, Susser Tod"; the whole 'Third Impact' sequence from EoE is one my all-time favorite scenes, and easily one of the most expertly executed meshings of visuals and music in cinema.

Komm, Süsser Tod - YouTube

NGE desperately needs a re-release in the States.
