TLO Update

UPDATE 12/20/13 --
The "Antinatalists, attack!" thread is readable again, though closed.

---

Heretofore personal attacks against other members will no longer be tolerated. By "personal attacks" I mean name calling, linking to personal information about a member, etc. This will be considered a bannable offense.

Thomas Ligotti Online has been around now for coming up on 16 years (as of early next year). I created it as an information site for readers and admirers of Thomas Ligotti (and related fiction). Since then and thanks to the tireless efforts of Dr. Bantham, TLO has become a real community. And like any community, we need at least a few rules to keep things stable and usable for all.

Again, personal attacks of any kind will no longer be tolerated. There's no reason that vehement disagreements can't still occur here upon occasion--that's understandable with a community as large and diverse as ours--but keep it about the argument, not the person.

If you have any comments or suggestions, feel free to express them in this thread. And thanks for your support, your patience and your membership.

I'm glad to see things straightened out. TLO is a big part of my day, and I appreciate it.

Would it be possible to be able to read the thread with the comment facility disabled? Yellow Jester made some classic postings there and it would be a shame if they vanished for ever.

Good point, Malone.

Right now the thread is archived--not deleted--and I'd like it to remain so for at least a week to give all parties involved a chance to cool off and move on to other matters. After that, we can talk about reviving it to one degree or another.

Justin Isis' posts were also classics. In their own way. :drunk:

Justin's were the most entertaining and penetrating posts on the entire thread.

Someone should just publish it as a chapbook. ;)

I just joined this forum/group in order to read the recent Antinatalist thread (which I heard about elsewhere), especially Ligotti's post(s) (I thought I was not able to view it because I was not a member, but now that I have gone through the tedious registration process, I still can't read it); I had/have no interest in posting comments on it, just wanted to read it; please release it and allow it to be read (what a strange thing to have to say in 2013).

While I understand your reasons, I don't really think it was all that bad especially considering the amount of good content that arose within it. It is disappointing that one or two people are able to ruin it for the rest of the well-intentioned and intelligent people posting their thoughts constructively and rationally. In my opinion those few people should have been dealt with on a singular basis instead of allowing their actions to ruin a perfectly good and meaningful conversation for the majority. Anywho, my $.02.

The thread is well on its way to becoming legendary. I propose that it be donated to the Smithsonian, where it could be viewed 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. most days of the year.

I think it should eternally lie in state for all to view, a dead monument to once ancient hope.
I thank the Doctors Locrian and Bantham for their wise governance during the last few days. And sorry to see anyone leave TLO dissatisfied with its ever-changing collective unconscious. I have been here since 2005 and it remains fascinating and inspiring in all its aspects, a boundlessness in and of itself, paradoxically stark as well as rich.

And how's GS Carnivals? I hope he is well. I miss his Quirk Classics.
