If we're talking obscure as in mainstream recognition, my go-to will always be SKULLFLOWER. An evolving sound over the last 25 or 30 years, but never approaching anything that could be considered normal. (OK, maybe "Transformer," but that is an outlier.)

"Vocal Exploration" is pretty much the only way I can define this project. I've never heard anything like it, and truly one of the most forward thinking works in modern music.
