Re: Who Are You?

I don't know if I've ever posted to this either, so here goes:

I grew up in a small community called Mosherville, in Nova Scotia, which is on the east coast of Canada. When I moved to Halifax when I was 19, I left behind basically thirteen people in the community. I worked for 18 years for a trust company until they roped me and dragged me to the back door saying my job was redundant, and frankly, I was as well.

I've been married six times. No. That's a lie. I've never been married nor do I have kids--and that suits me just fine. If I ever want something to love I'll get myself a dog.

I enjoy reading, writing, collecting autographs and handwritten letters. I have quite the collection in a big trunk in my bedroom. The strange thing is that only one earthling has ever read more than four of the letters that I've received. (I've of course read them all myself.) I keep them in plastic, sealed, and I treasure them very much. My favorite letter came from a 100 year old woman from Cape Breton, Canada. She sent me a letter post-marking it a few years in the future. Hey, if I live to be 100, I should be able to do anything I want as well.

I smoked once, a pack a day. That habit has not been a part of my life for eight years. My pocket book thanks me, or perhaps my belly as smoking is so expensive in Canada.

I've never outgrown my imagination. I am sure when I'm 80, I'll still take life with a grain of salt.

I'm an addict--to tea.

Enough.

I'm Alec Smith

I am 43 years old, enjoying mid-life wisdom and security. I work as an executive assistant to the corporate controller of a medical device firm in Santa Ana.

My dream and current goal is to make my living as a writer. I've been writing since I was fourteen, but only seriously for the last six years. I'm finally feeling like I'm getting some talent and experience in my writing and I am preparing seven stories for the publication rounds.

I'm also a musician that plays mainly guitar and mandolin, but dabbles in percussion, bass and keyboards. I also produce and engineer my own music and the music for my band(s). Bands I play in are two acoustic guitar rockin jam music (Grateful Dead first sets from the late sixties).

Married for 18 years to the same woman - no kids (thank GOD) and no plans to have any (Vasectomies are da BOMB).

Ulysees by James Joyce is my all-time favorite book, with Delany's Dhalgren a close second.

I'm endlessly fascinated by the short stories of Ramsey Campbell, John Shirley, Clive Barker (B of B), T. Ligotti, Q.Crisp, M. Samuels and DF Lewis.

I also enjoy the labyrinthine writing of Thomas Mann.

Life is good!

Doot doot doot…

My name is Toebe for simplicities sake.

I enjoy reading, writing, short walks on the concrete. The authors that I like include:

George Orwell. D. Harlan Wilson, Irvine Welsh, H.G Wells, William Gibson, H.P. Lovecraft, Arthur C. Clark, Kurt Vonnegut, William S. Burroughs, Chuck Palahniuk, Aldous Huxeley, Douglass Adams, Neil Gaiman, Cory Doctorow, Ray Bradbury, Guy de Maupassant, Joseph Heller, Joseph Conrad, Jules Verne, Franz Kafka, Thomas Ligotti, Bret Easton Ellis, Roald Dahl, Philip K. Dick, Oscar Wilde, Albert Camus, Haruki Murakami, Paul auster…etc

but I'm open to almost anything….

I was introduced to this site by one Mr. Koger.

He introduces a lot of unhealthy reading and website viewing.

Just ask if there’s any questions.

hooray for stagnancy....

Ambivalent, welcome to TLO! I hope your stay is a pleasant one! I just chatted with Mr. Koger and a few others in the Bungalow House. Your benefactor/sponsor/bad influence is good fun, indeed! It must be quite an experience to know Mr. K. personally. As for the rest of us, much remains unknown....

Huh. Caught me on that one too. Compulsively make large batches of strange infusions...

Other tidbits on me:

-I'm in the process of writing a series of stories which I intend to be published through the Red Tower.
-I'm a weird music fanatic. I own several samples of unusual or rare vinyl, such as a copy of IHASPFTW, an original pressing of Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols, promo versions of Swans' Holy Money and Time is Money (Bastard), and the Decemberists' Sixteen Military Wives 7", imported from the UK for less in toto than I would from my own country, the US(SR?).
-I am studying French, Basque, and German.
-Thought of the day: Iraq is better off with crazed despots ruling it than we so-called "liberators". Without vile, controlling people of secular inclination in power there, even more vile people of religious leanings start killing each other.
