The most Lovecraftian coastline
Please forgive me if such a thread already exists. (A cursory search didn't uncover one.)
Consider: The cries of the wheeling gulls over an uninhabited archipelago in the Pacific; the spray of the tide over jagged rocks shaggy with bladderwrack; a briny cave at the bottom of a cliff, its entrance slippery with green weed and ooze... What is more Lovecraftian than the ecotone of the coast, reminding us of what has sunk, and of what might yet rise again? With this in mind, I would like to propose that we nominate what we believe to be the most Lovecraftian coastlines in the world - either judging by the suggestive shapes they make on a map, or by how they look on the ground, from a more primitive human perspective. I will nominate the coastline of Turkey, judging by how it looks in maps: http://i2.wp.com/www.tsumaps-neam.eu...size=800%2C445 http://www.oocities.org/emailfrednz/.../turkeymap.gif Etc. | |||||||||||

Route 1 that runs up and down the coast of Maine might be a place to consider. It is other-worldly and is like stepping back in time 100 years, at least in certain, more obscure sections. It is stunningly beautiful, yet menacing, especially in the dark weather seasons.

How about the Na Pali coast in Kauai?

How about the bayou swamps of Louisiana in the US? That is also "Call of Cthulhu" country.

Re: The most Lovecraftian coastline
Staying with the "Call of Cthulhu" motif a bit longer, it would be a miss to avoid mention of the ruins of Nan Madol in Pohnpei, South Pacific:

Fog also has the ability to transform a normal coastal scene into a Lovecraftian one:

Anywhere along the coast of Belgium, not for its National Geographic-scale grandeur, but quite the contrary, for its levels of oppressive drabness, which are Lovecraftian in the extreme.
